o, then I see Queen Mab hath been with you

I had a bunch of really random dreams last night. The first one was that my mother and I got into a fight because I still hadn't picked a dissertation topic. (I guess she thought I wasn't thinking hard enough?) It ended with me pulling a bunch of books of criticism off of my bookshelves and piling them into her arms, crying, and saying things like, "See? This is what a dissertation has to be like! It can't just be, like, a collection of poetry or something!"

(This is clearly because my mother and I had a conversation last week in which I discovered that she has absolutely no idea what I do in grad school, and she'd thought that a dissertation could be anything, including creative writing. I am not sure where the fighting came in, though, except perhaps for general stress reasons, and because I spent a few hours yesterday avoiding eye contact with one of my advisors, at a group lunch, whenever the subject of the field exam came up.)

Then I had a dream in which a man attempted to steal my purse by threatening to cut the strap with an Exacto knife. He did not actually get the purse, however, because I tossed it to a friend and then we ran away.

(No idea. Probably also stress.)

Finally, I had a dream in which I was on staff for some kind of weekly hour-long TV show involving Shakespeare. I think it was a sort of Elizabethan CSI where Shakespeare would go around and solve crimes. I'm not sure exactly what my job was with this show, but when I woke up, I remembered being incredibly excited in the dream that because it was a TV show, we could hire actual boys to play the boy actresses, and one of them was getting into costume just as I woke up. I don't get that one either, but at least it was fun.

boy actresses, dreams, elizabethan stuff
