book meme

Name fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you, and don't take too much time to think about it (the first fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes). Copy this into your own post.

Many of these books will be familiar, I think. It was a fairly easy meme to do, since after years of moving from dorm to home and back (mailing books in boxes across several states), and then moving for grad school, I know the books that *always* make it into those boxes, and those books make up most of (though not all of) the list.

1. Tamsin -- Peter S. Beagle (I think this might be my favorite book in the world right now)
2. Emma -- Jane Austen (currently my favorite Austen)
3. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler -- E. L. Konigsburg*
4. Possession -- A. S. Byatt
5. I Capture the Castle -- Dodie Smith (I never leave the country without it!)
6. King of Shadows -- Susan Cooper
7. The Sandman series -- Neil Gaiman
8. Charlotte Sometimes -- Penelope Farmer
9. Twelfth Night -- William Shakespeare (well, duh)
10. The Riddle-master of Hed -- Patricia McKillip (I photocopied my favorite bits of this book at the library before I found a copy)
11. The Perilous Gard -- Elizabeth Marie Pope
12. Fire and Hemlock -- Diana Wynne Jones
13. The Hero and the Crown -- Robin McKinley
14. Animal Dreams -- Barbara Kingsolver
15. The Beacon at Alexandria -- Gillian Bradshaw

*This was the hardest choice on this list; I went back and forth between this one and The Secret Garden (I mean, I wrote a story/novella that was pretty heavily indebted to my childhood obsession with this book, and didn't even *realize* I'd done so until years later), and I'm still not entirely sure I picked the right one. Oh well. /overanalysis
