So, to share yesterday's good news.
Wednesday, I finally got to meet with and retain an immigration lawyer for Amanda and I. We're in a position where we can get this done finally, and it's time to make our move. The lawyer: Expensive, but already worth it. Confirms we've been doing most of the things right so far, and that we're pretty much a shoe-in as long as I can satisfy the money requirements to support her. (I should be able to.) He hears about our previous attempt a year and change ago, and asks for copies of the paperwork we did.
I got a call yesterday from the lawyer. He called the US consulate in Montreal and, using the information I gave him, has re-opened our case and had our old application ressurected. He just cut two months and $450 in government fees off the process for us, and made it so that all the work we did last year wasn't wasted. Now we're just waiting to hear back from the consulate and set up the final interview. Amanda may be down here as early as August.
Immigration lawyers: Expensive, but freaking worth it.
