If you haven't noticed, in journals and comms set to view comment pages in default view (like at
bones_ga or
bitesize_bones), LJ has seen fit to mess with the formatting and remove things like subject headings for comments, parent thread buttons and all the things that made viewing multiple comment thread posts so handy.
It has basically wrecked comment fic memes and re-watch type posts, as comments will become lost in the threads - for instance at bitesize, if more than one person answers the same prompt.
There are other updates like being able to view your userpics by sight instead of name - except they're not in alphabetical order by keyword and people with slow connections and/or limited bandwidth have reported that they slow down their browsing of the site (like this place isn't slow enough already!) or stall their computer altogether.
An unforeseen (by me) problem though is that people often use the subject headers of comments to post trigger warnings for those who may want to steer clear of certain fic or content. I found a link to
this comment at the feedback post for these "updates" and wanted to share so that anyone else who might suffer in this way could be warned to be careful.
I am not sure of the future of comment fic memes at bitesize if these changes aren't reversed. I had planned to run a meme in January, post Ep 6, but we'll have to see.
I really hope LJ considers a roll back because ya know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! And I encourage anyone else who thinks the changes are a bad idea to make their voices heard
here.
