this king

i couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to visit the museum.

i mean, inside, it's all the same, with the paintings and dim lights, dark creaky floors and rather frightening rooms in the second gallery, but the courtyard was absolutely gorgeous.

for all the times i've visited the ringling art gallery i've never stopped in the courtyard and admired the statues--which is a pity, really.

so i got to do that today. it made me happy--i saw a copy of a statue of dionysus and silenus that i'd seen pictures of, and had no clue it was there (i literally bounded over to look at it--freaked my uncle right the fuck out).

actually that trip made my day.

the second part was what did it, though--i got to give an impromptu mythology lesson on the unfortunate love life of the god apollo. it started when my uncle mistook the back of an apollo statue for his sister, and i corrected him, and ended up babbling onto his friend about the silly god's poor taste in men and women.

it was pretty hilarious. :<

then my mom canceled our trip this summer and i'm still crying about not being able to see my king and his castles.

or his death-ceremony.
