Plzeň Day Trip + Zdeněk rocks

So the first place we went when we got here was the Pilsner Urquell Brewery for our first dinner in the country. Everyone got either gulas (goulash) or the vegetarian option, noodles. As we were driving away from there, I remember Z telling us that he will take us there for our last weekend, and so I made sure to get on the trip this time.

It was pretty cool -- we got to go around and see the story of the brewing company, how all the beer is brewed, and tasted some at the end. pilsner isn't my most favorite beer, but it was still neat to see the famous, huge czech brewery!

in Plzen, we also went to see the memorial to the American soldiers who liberated the town in World War 2. It's on Americka (Amerits-ka) street, and the monument says "Thank you America!"... someone shouted out "hey, we're back at home!" It was a bit overwhelming to see that written on a monument right in front of me; especially that weekend b/c i was very homesick at the time. seeing english on a monument was pretty neat too, b/c that doesn't even happen that often at home.

Zdenek has really been great this whole trip. One day, on the way back from a trip, he told us "I love you. You are my children and my grandchildren." And if you knew how he talked, you'd know how amazingly cute and nice that is of him. He cares a lot about us and wants to make sure that our time here is spent enjoying ourselves and learning a lot. While his stories often put me to sleep on the bus, I'm incredibly thankful that I was able to meet him and spend time with him.
