weekly word count: the return

Jan 13, 2013 23:41

It was kind of weird to get to the end of 2012 and not really have a very coherent idea of what I'd worked on and accomplished all year. I kind of miss it. So even though I missed the first week, I think I'm gonna bring this back. Until/unless I forget to. We'll see, heh.

(I no longer have actual weekly goals or anything like that. I used to strive for 10,000 words a week and usually averaged 5-7,000, but in the last year I've loosened up on that a lot. It's much better for my wrists not to push things, I've been more social and have worked to find non-computer-related things to fill my time with. I still write a lot, I think, but worry about it less. That's probably a good thing.)

Since it's been ages, here's what I'm working on:

+ The novel. Still. Forever. And ever. This is the third draft -- which is a ground-up rewrite, and so it's actually the third time I've written the damn thing -- and it's currently hovering at about 69,000 words and I think it's within 10,000 of the end. Probably closer than that, actually, despite how long-winded I am. It's my main focus.

+ The homeless!Jackson AU. Currently my main fannish focus, but that tends to change week to week. It's hovering at 14,000-ish words right now and will probably be in the 50k range when it's done.

+ A bunch of other Teen Wolf fics, particularly pornstar!Jackson and the slaveverse fic that's actually about Derek and Stiles back in the day (basically the prequel to Here at the End of All Things). I also have... idek, let's call it alpha!Danny. It is a for-my-eyes-only project that makes no sense and has no plot and I'm not really writing, just jotting down scenes I like and sending people ridiculous emails.

This week...

+ I only got to work on the novel once, which netted about 1,400 words. (Working on the novel has become a weirdly codified process for me; I take my laptop to a Starbucks a couple times each week and do very focused sessions that start with pre-writing in a notebook. I usually average between 1,500 and 2,000 words an hour doing that. This seems to be working for me, since it's how I've written most of this draft.)

+ About 1,150 words of homeless!Jackson. I want this to be going much more easily than it is, but meh. Whatever.

+ I was also able to clean up and post Thanks For Nothing, a fic I'd had sitting around half-finished for ages. There wasn't any real writing to it, just edits from my beta, but hey, an accomplishment is an accomplishment.

And now for my next accomplishment: bed before midnight.
