Intro to Big Time Rangers 'verse here, if you want to have even a mild idea what is happening. Oh, and Logan is the Blue Ranger, James is the Pink Ranger. Think about it. It works.
It wasn’t that Logan was a pessimist, it was that he was a pragmatist, and practically speaking, they had absolutely no chance and were all about to die. Hawk was shooting some kind of energy blasts and they couldn’t get near him, and the whole lobby was swarming with kritters and it seemed like no matter how many they took down, a dozen more sprang up.
Logan whirled, ducking under a claw that nearly got him, and landed a kick that took out the nearest beast. It exploded in a blast of sparkles and fur, which was creepy as heck. Two more sprang up where it had been, and Logan backed up cautiously, hitting James, who was also backing towards him.
“I don’t know if we’re going to make it,” Logan hissed, ducking under a kritter that Kendall had sent flying from across the room. “There’s too many!”
James didn’t answer, and that was a bad sign. When even James couldn’t stop to banter, things were bad. Yeah. They were going to die. And probably soon -- no matter what he did, there were too many baddies, and he and James were slowly backed into a corner. “Can you see the others?”
James smashed a kritter that snapped at him, stood on his tiptoes for a split second, then, “We’re all still standing, but...”
But.
Logan had heard that you always see the one that gets you. A kritter broke for James, and he grabbed it by the tail, hauling it away. James got a good kick in and it exploded, but he screamed, “Look out!” The world went into slow motion. Logan turned, saw another kritter springing towards him, muzzle open and jaws frothing. He raised his arms defensively, no time to duck, let alone hit, and the thing was barely inches from his face --
Out of nowhere, a silver boot slammed down on it, exploding it into pieces, and when the dazzling light died down a little, a silver-clad ranger was posed in front of them, arms raised. As soon as a kritter started to move she whirled towards it, taking it out in one fluid, almost terrifying motion.
She glanced back over her shoulder. Or so Logan assumed. Helmets made it kind of hard to tell things like that. “You boys looked like you could use some help,” she drawled, and took down another of the freaking monsters.
“We had things totally under control,” James squawked.
“Riiiiiight. Here, take this one.” She dodged the side, letting a kritter past so she could get to one behind it, and James did a surprisingly impressive leap thing to take it out. “Not bad,” she conceded.
“Because I’m very good,” James said, his voice husky.
“Now is really not the time,” Logan snapped at him, and he couldn’t see James’ pout through his pink helmet, but he knew it was there.
Across the room, Kendall, Katie, and Carlos had finally managed to get near Hawk -- and Hawk was ducking away from another new ranger, this one in gold. Finally, he screamed, “Curse you all!” and vanished with a double caw, the rest of the kritters disappearing with him.
“Well, that was exciting,” Katie said.
“Thanks for the hand,” Kendall said to the Gold Ranger.
“Who are you?” Logan asked Silver.
She put a fist on her hip. “That’s for us to know, and you to find out. Later!”
She and the Gold Ranger both vanished.
“I wish we could teleport like that,” Carlos sighed.
“She was cute,” James said.
“She was wearing a full body costume and helmet! How could you possibly tell that?” Logan demanded.
James just shrugged. “I think it’s my extra power. Charming cute girls. I’m pretty sure.”
“You don’t have an extra --”
“Okay, boys, enough!” Katie interrupted. “Let’s go, and we’re practicing for three extra hours tonight so we don’t get our butts kicked again. I’m not relying on anyone I don’t know.”
