Dragon breeds & general squeeing

Hello! Just found this community a couple of days ago, and felt the need to join because of my massive love for Temeraire!

Also have some things I'd like to discuss with you guys...

First off, I didn't fully realize how successful Novik had been in making me think of the dragons as people until I got to the appendix. The whole notion of dragon species being "destroyed" or nearly so, by hunting... *teardrops* How could the aviators allow it? OK, so these are late 18th - early 19th-century morals we're dealing with, and a feral dragon is dangerous, but still... poor dragons.

For that matter, what about the dragons themselves? They do seem to have some sense of community, but perhaps that doesn't extend beyond the "in group". None of them seem bothered about the idea of fighting other dragons on behalf of their humans. Maybe it's just a case of "well, my handler would never let anyone hurt me, why should I care about those other guys?"
