What they said was, “Ok, we’ll make this ad, it will sort of run the full width of the screen and then you’ll get an image, and that image can be linked to something.” They were designing for Mosaic and maybe an early version of Netscape at the time. Во-первых, границы браузера. Я глянул на скриншоты максимизированых программ Win3,1. У них место отъедает только скроллбар в 16 пикселей. Нашел навигатор в Win2000, у него границы 2 + 15 = 17. Итого, если бы полная ширина была бы 480, баннеры должны быть 464 или 463 пикселя, и баннер в 468 не влезает.
Во-вторых, мониторов с шириной 480 не было, были 320 и 640.
468 влезало поперек монитора за исключением границ браузера
60 -- это ебанутое число, как раз буквы влазят...

А пизданутый размер из-за того, что по два пиксела с краю ушло на обрезку под ссылку.
Кто помнит - у ссылок вокруг картинки рисовалась рамка в два пиксела "королевским синим".
