I'm finally finished with classes for the semester. All I have left are my finals and writing up the last week and a half in my notebook for ENG 199. I'm going to try to finish the notebook while I'm at the state competition tomorrow so that I can be done with it and devote Sunday to studying. Maybe I can study for Japanese for a while Saturday night too.
Today I had the Japanese oral exam, which went better than I thought it would. I think I did okay, despite getting the topic I thought I didn't want, which was cloning. We were joking later that two of the three cards must have been cloning, because almost everybody we talked to got that topic. It went well though because the things I wanted to say about that did not have to be in a particular order so much (except for being separated in favor or opposing) so I could say what I had in my mind and not have to remember a particular order. The other topics might have been harder to pull off because I had an order for my ideas and I was really worried I would sit there and not remember what I wanted to say. But I actually managed to spit it all out without too many "uh"'s and "anou"'s. I made a couple phrase errors, but Nishiguchi-sensei didn't make any other comments other than saying that I'd done well, so I guess I did okay. ^_^ It didn't feel like I talked more than a minute and a half though. That was interesting because when I was practicing it took me like three to five minutes to get through one speech because I couldn't remember them very well. While speaking for real I'm sure I wouldn't have had a very good sense of time, so I guess I can't really be sure.
I (finally) turned in the original copy of the five-year LAS/Engineering program sheet to the Engineering office. That was rather amusing, actually, because the secretary took a look at it and started talking about how I'd have to spend a year in LAS, and how she would have to make copies for me to give to my advisor, and oh, you already have it signed by other advisors and everything. So I explained that I already knew about spending a year in LAS, and I already talked to all the advisors I could think of, and I already took it to the LAS office and they made copies for themselves and for my engineering advisor. Then she gave me an odd look and said, "Wow, you really did this bass-ackwards, didn't you?" (That's literally almost word for word what she said.) Apparently I was supposed to bring it to the Engineering office first and they were going to make copies, and then I should have taken it to the LAS office. Or something like that. At any rate, she said as long as I'd already gotten it signed and copies to the right places, she didn't see any reason why she couldn't just go ahead and file it. So, I guess I'm officially by any office's records in the five-year program now.
Tonight Jeff and I finished watching Summer Snow. I can't believe he managed to not say anything about the ending, not even any complaints. And I also managed to completely forget about Dawn's comments from spring semester when she watched it. So I was really surprised when things completely turned around. He was always like "it was a stupid ending!" and maybe I take things like that too seriously, but I thought aside from a few details done badly, the ending was rather interesting. Or maybe I just like unexpected endings that make too much sense in twisted ways.
