New fandom!

Thanks to masterofmidgets I have a new fandom. It is HAIRY BIKERS. I resisted for a long time! But I was bored, I stumbled across an old bookmark she'd linked me to, and now...

FOOD. AND FANDOM. TOGETHER AT LAST.

Basically, it's these two guys - the Hairy Bikers, who are indeed Hairy and Bikers - who cook together. Typical cooking show stuff, they go around talking to other chefs and then make themed meals, though in this Everyday Gourmet series, they're making said themed meals for various deserving people. The kitchens are gorgeous, all practical and tons of counterspace and lots of burners and jars of beautiful spices and the utensils are just - I stare at them covetously. The whole kitchen. Their base kitchen is especially fantastic, it's really homey and comfy without sacrificing any of the function of a fancy-schmancy brushed metal deal.

And the food! They like to go around the world, so it's not boring, and they have my approach to mixing - Italian and Japanese and a bit of Indian? Why not! So there are lots of recipes with lots of different techniques, and in this series they're focusing on making fancy food cheaply (relatively cheaply), which is fun, and they make pretty plates.

Which is part of the hilarious adorable fandom part - they've got the whole old married couple thing going on, where they're constantly bickering and rearranging things when the other's back is turned and being obsessive, and they coo over the food in really ridiculous ways - it swaps between 'you can grab it by the stem and gnaw it!' and 'the exotic gourmet spices melt into the flesh' (of the pears!). In this latest episode (that I'm watching - second in the series), one was in the bath and the other one came up and started in on brainstorming. In the first episode, one gave the other one a massage while he was cutting vegetables. MARRIED.

It's like a fluffy domesticity fic ON TELEVISION. WITH FOOD. GORGEOUS FOOD.

I am considering making the poached pears in salted caramel sauce, they look spiffy and delicious. Or the chicken puttanesca - I don't like chicken very much, but the little chicken thigh bundles were so adorable! We will see if the tiny kitchen can produce the pretties...

food, fangirling
