It's been a while since I made a general life update, so

I'm not sure I have anything particular to say, really, other than that it's been awhile. I'm still in Japan, and I've renewed my contract so I'm gonna be here another year and a half. Then off to some other place for me, I think. I am young, I am free, I cannot be tied down! The depression's been better lately, between the Real Live Friends Nearby thing and the cooler weather thing, though sadly, the tendency towards insomnia has not really improved. I caught a lizard in my apartment and I was not happy about it, but so far, no cockroaches, so blessings are being counted. Although if my RLFN would stop talking about boys and marriage, that would be nice. I am interested in boys (and girls) but not in marriage, and the discussion of boys (no girls) gets old fast.

Mostly, I've been reading lately, rather than writing. I have finished: American Gods, Unspoken, Inda, Cyteen, Sunshine, The Demon's Lexicon. I am currently working on Witch Eyes and Fox and The Curiosities of Puritan Nomenclature (thanks to copperbadge), which is a hilarious read. An unexpectedly hilarious read.

Teaching is... well, we had open house, and so far, none of the parents have complained, but I've only had two responses so far. Fingers crossed. Today I managed to keep my twelve year old boys from sulking up until the last few minutes of the lesson, whereupon they descended into high dudgeon. Ascended? I dunno. I told K that he couldn't be keeper, it was R's turn, and T insisted that R be keeper, so K started sulking, and Y just sat in the back laughing like a lunatic.

Obviously I have both cut all my hair off and signed up for Yuletide. My friend C thinks the haircut is a sign of major life changes, but I'm reasonably sure it's not. Unless it lures in some, which would be awesome.

Went to see an art museum. Entry fee was exorbitant, but discovered that I really like Kano Hogai's landscapes. They're really gorgeous, amazing brushwork and perspective. There was this one I really liked that I wish I could find a reproduction/Internet image of, because it was gorgeous. These giant mountains and when you looked closely, these exquisite little boats and these tiny houses and high up in the mountains this somewhat distorted, vague image of a man, it was awesome.

I ordered a tiny oven! Tiny food pictures may be forthcoming.

life, work
