Headache

Yesterday I had to go home sick from work. Headache, fever symptoms if no actual fever, queasiness. Went to bed early, slept a long time, feel in many ways better, despite the poor quality of said sleep. Except for the headache, which is, if anything, getting worse. I suspect it's related to typhoon season - we've had front after front rolling in, and my skull is not equipped to deal with that shit. Could also be at least partially stress-related. I'm trying to figure out right now what exactly I need to be doing to be capable of working, since at the moment I do not feel entirely capable of working.

Today I'm going to:
  • Do yoga
  • Follow my do-not-eat/eat rarely diet exactly (this includes soy, which makes living in Japan very difficult)
  • Drink lots of fluids
  • Change my sheets
  • Possibly get a massage in the evening, if time and energy permits

And that's about all I can think of... This is the problem with teaching. If this were the sort of job where I didn't have students who depended on me, I would feel much better about going off for a day to lie still in a cool dark place and grumble to myself about how much my head hurts. But I have students who depend on me and coworkers who have more than enough of their own work to be doing. So I really hope this nonsense fixes itself soon. Japan in general is really bad for my health - I'm getting sick less than I did last time I was here, but that's really not saying much. I don't know why it is. At least there are no subways in Nishio, so I don't have to deal with subway lights while suffering from a migraine. Bicycling is, on the whole, much easier.

There's not much going on outside of work, really. I've gotten into a very silly TV show that is, nevertheless, considerably less bad than I was expecting. I'm not writing at all, I'm not really studying Japanese (other than the studying I do every day by working in an office where Japanese is the primary language spoken). I'm not practicing my harp (although I may do that this morning too - even if I don't have any music, I can at least practice chords and stuff).
