Surprised!

So, last day of class, yay! *throws dramatic gestures about like so much shredded paper* I am, as usual, rather done with being educated. Not done with learning, just with being educated. It's a bit wearing, really.

In the interests of promoting knowledge, however, I feel I have to state that yes, much to my surprise, it is possible to get through a lecture on the Edo period without once mentioning the naughty ukiyo-e (despite the fact that a ridiculous percentage of ukiyo-e was out and out porn, which led to its production being limited because the shogun of the time thought people were not accomplishing much due to looking at porn too much), or exactly what the ladies of the pleasure quarter (referred to as the 'gay quarter' by our sensei - er, not so much, that was kind of the point) actually did. Apart from their artistic endeavors, that is. He did mention that in 1629 women were banned from Kabuki theatre for being prostitutes, and in 1652 young boys were also banned from Kabuki theatre for being prostitutes.

We also went over the 47 Ronin story again. It's such a depressing story, and there's so very very much pointlessness. Honor. Bah. Although I am very fond of the fact that they set a little sign out in front of the house before they went in, to announce their intentions. And all the passersby were like 'hey, revenge, very nice. carry on, carry on.'

In other news, first A ever on a Japanese test! It was fabulous.

In other other news, yesterday was the Japanese 300 class farewell party, and it was lovely. I did a dance (yay dancing, and didn't even die of stage fright because my Apprentice In The Way Of The Reel And The Jig danced a couple jigs with me), and other classmates performed in various ways (memorable was the breakdance, in which my classmate ripped his pants and almost fell off the stage). We played games, of various geekiness - IJ 300 Telephone, The Kanji Grab It If You Can Get It game, Fruits Basket (which was awesome, if dangerous, and I was wearing a skirt. But, hehehe, classmate A totally sat on classmate B's lap, and B wrapped an arm around A's shoulders and was all 'hey, yes, we are just sitting here being two awesome cool guys' and it was very funny. Classmate A almost sat on me and elyra_chan and we both would've been Just Fine with him doing that. Or classmate C, known as That Pretty One, Yes, That One, By The Window.), and then we all sang ちさな恋の歌 while Genkisugiru-sensei played the guitar and 'sang'. He's very enthusiastic, as is evident by his nickname.

I am currently pondering making kahlua, because I am all sore from too much dancing and my throat is weird again in that way that's like it's not quite in alignment. Kahlua sounds nice. With lots of milk in.
