You Know You're From an American Military Base When...

You wave hello to the armed guards at the gate and know that they actually have orders to shoot to kill people forcing entry past the gates.

You laugh when someone salutes your Dad. It's only Dad (or in some cases Mom).

You actually know how to iron a military uniform before the age of 18.

You know the difference between the ranks of Captain.

You think leather shoes should be shiny and buckles should be polished every Sunday.

You know the difference between a tech sergeant and a staff sergeant.

You stop at 5pm and try to find the base flag pole.

You know who, what, and how the first shirt is.

You know the entire reveille song from start to finish and automatically stand at attention or stop what you are doing when you hear it.

You consider moving once every four years a long time
between cross country moves. (Cross town moves just
don't count in your list of total moves.)

You went to three schools for 6th grade.

You didn't realize there was an outside civilian world
until you were in high school.

You expect to get a military discount even though you
don't wear the uniform.

The day you turn 21 and don't have an ID, you feel
naked.

You never pay more then 3 bucks for a movie at the
base theater.

You get upset the day you can't enter the commissary
any more.

You stand at attention while the National Anthem plays
before the movie.

You make your bed with the tightest corners your
college roommates have ever seen. Hell, you make your
bed in college.

Everyone is Sir or Ma'am.

You fold your underwear in the proscribed military
pattern and don't think anything of it.

You speak acronym.

You wonder how civilians get things done because they
don't speak alphabet soup or fill out forms.

You see the same doc twice in a row and are shocked if
the medical staff actually remembers you.

You call the closest hospital the quack shack because
you can't sue the doctors and you can't go anywhere
else.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from the military.
