So I'm in a different sort of situation tonight. I'm like jazzed to work on the epic is of doom, but I can't because I have to write a draft for my African American lit class. It's one of those contrast and compare type deals so you know, not too bad, but she limited us to like.. 8 texts: Dubois' Souls Of Black Folk, Washington's Atlanta Exposition, poems by Dunbar and Wallace Johnson, 2 stories by Nora Zeale Hurston, and Nella Larsen's Quicksand. Bleh. I mean, all the texts in themselves were good. If I had to look at just one, I think I would be alright, but I don't see any really interesting links between any of them. Or rather, nothing I think I could talk about for 6-8 pages(!).
Right now I've got:
A. Violence/lynching in Souls and Dunbar
B. The study of black culture, Dubois v. Hurston
C. maybe something about using dialect?
Bah. I'm really starting to hate this class. Yes, I'm getting the exposure to AfAm lit I wanted, but the class itself (discussions, papers, ect) are such a waste of time. Maybe it's my fault because, really, I've already taken this class, just in a historical and cultural studies setting. But still...discussion and the professor's teaching methods leave so much to be desired.
Meh. I'll check back at 3 am. It'll be a ball.
i *heart* learning
