Any, any, betrayal (The Wilds, Nora)
Leah’s yelled at her, asking her how she could have been part of Gretchen Klein’s experiment, looked them all in the eye, sat by the fire with them as they shared confidences, screwed with their minds even more than Gretchen and her team had. Fatin had joined in with the yelling once Leah ran out of steam; Shelby, Dot and Martha had talked Toni down.
Nora can live with all that; what she’s struggling with is that Rachel hasn’t been able to forgive her betrayal, that after the first moment of finding out, she’d merely said “I grieved for the other half of me,” then turned away, not having spoken to her since.
any, any, a feather on the wind (Harry Potter)
Hermione doesn’t notice when the white feather flutters through the air before coming to a stop at Harry’s feet at Bill and Fleur’s wedding, and Ron’s been cornered by yet another aunt he hasn’t seen since he was about six years old.
Harry knows it’s not possible; Hedwig’s dead, this feather can’t be one of hers. Yet he pockets the feather anyway, tells himself it’s her way of letting him know she’s still with him.
Any, any, A character gets interested in genealogy and starts searching about their family's roots. (Dark, Jonas and his whole entire messed up family tree)
Jonas has always known that Grandma Ines adopted his father when Michael was eleven years old, but it’s only after something he saw on a TV show that he’s started wondering whether any of Michael’s birth family are out there somewhere and if he could find them.
Michael shuts the subject down when Jonas brings it up, tells him to leave it alone; Jonas humours him in the moment but secretly swipes some of Michael’s hair from his brush and sends it off to a DNA testing site, persuades Bartosz, Martha, Magnus and Franziska to send theirs off as well.
Franziska’s interested in the idea, knowing Charlotte Doppler had never known her birth parents and this might be a way of finding something out about her maternal family; the other three had really done it for the hell of it, not expecting to find anything.
“Where did you find this company, Jonas?” Magnus asks when the results come back. “Because if these are anything to go by, they’re a bunch of scammers who take your money and just give you anything for your results. These don’t even make sense. According to this, we’re all related.”
Bartosz was staring at his. “Some of these names from Dad’s side are weird, who are all these people called Niewald? Dad’s name was Kohler before my parents got married.”
Franziska pointed at him and laughed. “Screw that. According to this, you’re my great grandfather!”
“Well, damn, looks like we’re not gonna get any answers about what percentage Neanderthal we are, not with this shit,” Magnus, who’d always been the least interested in the first place, snorted.
“100%, I’ve been telling you that for years without a DNA test,” Martha rolled her eyes at her brother.
As Magnus, Martha and Bartosz laughed at these results that made no sense, Jonas looked at Franziska and wondered if she was just as disappointed as him at not getting any answers, and wondered if either of them ever would get any answers about their families.
