Second lot of three sentence fics

Catching up a bit now after getting behind following two weekends away:

Favourite Book (The Fandom book duology by Anna Day, Violet)

Violet knows she must never do it; there was a reason she and Alice had agreed that the Gallows Dance series would end with the second book. The Gallows Dance-verse had been handed over to the fandom to do as they wished with it; she and Alice would monitor the fan site to make sure no one voice became dominant and they never had another Fanboy situation again (Stoneback may have been dead, but there were still some Gems out there who remained loyal to him).

Yet Violet has never told Alice, or Ash, or Nate, that she sometimes wonders about the idea of bringing Katie back to life through a Gallows Dance fic, knowing that even if she can’t see her, or talk to her, Katie could still have a chance of being alive out there somewhere in the Gallows Dance-verse.

Fever (Legacies, Jed/Ben)

Many years had passed since Ashur had been taken ill with the fever, yet Ben found himself reminded of it all over again when Jed became sick not long after they started travelling. He remembered his feeling of powerlessness and frustration, knowing there was nothing he could personally do for him other than appeal to his father’s god powers only to be denied.

Despite Jed explaining that he had no intention of going anywhere, that this was a minor illness that would soon pass, and with the medical advances since Ashur’s time, even the illness he had had would be unlikely to be fatal today, Ben still found it hard to stop worrying.

Listening to Music (Lost, Desmond)

Desmond listens to You All Everybody (Naomi had been telling the truth about this, at least; the song, and DriveSHAFT, had had a revival following the crash of Flight 815) and sings the lyrics to his son, determined to keep Charlie Pace’s memory alive.

He listens to Wonderwall, remembers the time he and Charlie had met before in Covent Garden, and regrets that he had, after all, been unable to be the one that saved him.

And he listens to Make Your Own Kind Of Music, thinks of how it had been playing when Jack and Locke had broken open the hatch, setting in motion the chain of events that finally led to his reunion with Penny.

Halloween (One Of Us Is Lying, Addy)

Jake may have been in Halloween costume that night, but as Addy hears his version of what really happened when Simon died, she reflects that for the first time, his mask has come off, she’s seeing the real Jake Riordan.

But then she thinks of the lies they’ve all been living, Bronwyn keeping up the façade of being the perfect student when all along she’d cheated, Cooper hiding the fact that he was gay fearing how he’d be perceived in the baseball world, Addy herself keeping up the front of being the Stepford girlfriend knowing all along she really wasn’t. How many people had now come out from behind the mask?

Death (First Kill, Theo)

He was dead, and yet he was not dead; undead was the best way he could describe himself; he still walked among the living, could still think and feel. Yet the Theo Burns he had always been, the guy whose whole existence had been demon hunting, that guy was dead and never coming back. Now Theo had to adapt to life as a vampire, the world of the undead, away from his whole existence as a hunter, his friends, his family, left in the care of Oliver Fairmont who he hardly even knows, and has to find a way to come to terms with the death of the old Theo.

Loss (Walker: Independence, Tom)

Tom Davidson shouldn’t feel it’s a relief that Eli McDowd is gone. He’s trying to build a new life for himself as Independence’s Sheriff, and all it would have taken would have been Eli to let something slip to the wrong person about the things he’d turned a blind eye to in the past, and his goose would have been cooked. Yet at the same time, he can’t ignore the sense of loss he feels at the knowledge that his old friend is gone, that he won’t get the chance to talk over drinks about all their old memories again.

Fireworks (Hunger Games, Plutarch)

All around him watched, enraptured, as the fireworks exploded over the Capitol sky; President Snow had outdone himself this year for the celebration before the Quarter Quell.

Plutarch Heavensbee kept one eye on the display as he made eye contact with Haymitch with the other. It wouldn’t be long before they were faced with fireworks of an entirely different kind.

Necklace (Harry Potter, Regulus)

Regulus studied the counterfeit locket for a long time before deciding that yes, it was suitable to leave in the cave where the Dark Lord’s Horcrux was currently stored; it was a close enough match that the Dark Lord wouldn’t spot the switch straight away.

Although he had accepted that this action would result in his own impending death, a part of him still wished he could see the look on the Dark Lord’s face when he realised that the locket he would be holding at that point was, in fact, a fake, and the real Horcrux at that point hopefully destroyed. And while he knew that it was safer for his brother to know nothing at all, a part of Regulus wished he could go to Sirius, tell him he now knew Sirius had been right about the Dark Lord all along, and that he wished they could have been closer as brothers.

Reveal (Walker: Independence, Lucia Reyes)

Although Lucia knows she should not feel this way, she has found it so much harder to look at Hoyt ever since he was the one to pick up the inconsistencies in her brother’s story and reveal that Luis was the one who killed Papa. Hoyt was not to blame, he could not let an innocent man hang for a murder he had not committed, and even if he had not said anything, Deputy Augustus would still have found out that Papa was killed with a bullet and not an arrow which would have reopened the investigation anyway, and since Sheriff Davidson had made the decision to halt Calian’s execution before either Hoyt or Deputy Augustus even arrived there, it seemed to Lucia that he had his doubts even then about Calian’s guilt.

Yet when Lucia looked at Hoyt now, even knowing he wanted to be there for her, she still struggled to see him as anything but the person who had taken her brother away from her.

Black Cat (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sabrina, Ambrose and Salem)

Ambrose had taken care of Salem for Sabrina during that brief time before Nick and her aunties had brought her back; Sabrina had been surprised to see him alive and waiting for her, knowing that familiars did not usually survive their masters.

Ambrose shrugs when Sabrina asks him this question, says that he figures Salem must have always known that Sabrina would come back one day.

Sabrina doesn’t know if that’s true, but she’s glad Salem’s here; since Sabrina hasn’t yet quite forgiven her aunties for bringing her back while Nick remained in the Sweet Hereafter, Salem’s the one she can rely on right now.
