Three sentence fics

So here's the first few fills from the 3 sentence challenge over at 1_million_words

Making Money (Yellowjackets, Jeff)

It was hard for Jeff to believe now that he’d thought the worst case scenario in his blackmail scheme was Randy’s suggestion that Natalie and Taissa would just tell him to fuck off and not pay anything; Randy didn’t know the full content of Shauna’s journals about the Yellowjackets’ time in the Canadian wilderness, after all, whereas Jeff did, and knew that there was enough that would torpedo Taissa’s political career, that none of the survivors would want to become public knowledge, so he was pretty confident at the time that that wouldn’t happen.

Jeff had never imagined that someone else would come under serious suspicion, that someone else being Shauna’s lover. Since Adam’s disappearance hit the news, he’d seen the way Callie looked at him, and he knew she was wondering if he could have done it, and Jeff couldn’t clear himself of her suspicions without revealing that her mother was the killer, that he had helped to cover it up, and the truth about Shauna’s time out there that she and her friends had worked so hard to hide for 25 years would be out in the open; he may have made enough money to save his furniture business, but at what cost to his family?

Red Light (Supernatural, Dean, Sam, Jack)

“I’m surprised you let Jack drive,” Sam said to Dean, “considering how long it took before you’d even let me behind the wheel.”

“I admit, I started out hoping he wouldn’t run a red light and get caught,” Dean admitted, “considering I was declared legally dead years ago and he’d probably give his actual age when he was questioned. But then I thought, what the hell, so what if he did, he got to have some fun, we got to bond, we’ve handled worse than a goddamn red light, and besides, we’re not gonna get too many more opportunities to do that kind of fun stuff with him, so if it had happened, we’d have handled it just fine.”

Fire (House of the Dragon, Rhaenys)

It would have been so easy for Rhaenys in the moment to have said that one word, Dracarys, and ended this farce that was the unlawful coronation of Aegon Targaryen; Alicent could insist all she liked that Viserys had had a last minute change of heart on his deathbed, but Rhaenys knew her cousin well, knew his mind, knew he had been determined to the end that Rhaenyra would succeed him.

Yet Aegon, Helaena, Aemond were all family; Rhaenys did not believe that any of Viserys’s children themselves had schemed in this usurpation of the crown, and she knew that asking Meleys to set the coronation alight would not be what Viserys would have wanted. The throne must be restored to Rhaenyra, and Rhaenys would help her take it back in any way she could, but fire was not the way.

Wrong Turn (All American: Homecoming, Damon)

Damon Sims’s path had seemed laid out for him when he first arrived at college; four years playing baseball for Bringston, then on to the professionals.

Transferring out in order to put some distance between himself and the biological father who’d abandoned him believing him to be the product of his mother’s affair had seemed to him in the moment to be the right path, until faced with the reality of actually leaving behind his team, his brother, his friends. Now he saw the proposed transfer to Hawkins as a wrong turn, a veering from the path that was right for him, but felt he had to still take that road, however wrong the road may be.

Hope (Yellowjackets, Shauna)

When exactly had they all lost hope?

Even though Laura Lee’s plan to fly that crappy old plane had sounded nuts when she’d first proposed it, a part of Shauna had allowed herself to feel hope that she’d actually get somewhere, just as she had when Taissa and Van had set out on foot in the hope of getting to civilisation. For Shauna, she thought the defining moment had been when she’d found Jackie in the snow, the one time when Shauna hadn’t had her back; the loss of the one constant in her life had been the loss of her hope.

Old Sweatshirt (It's A Sin, Ash)

Ash had come across an old sweatshirt of Ritchie’s that had somehow been missed when that woman had taken him back to the Isle of Wight; when his parents turned up again to collect the rest of his things, a part of Ash had wondered whether he should hand that back over to them.

Roscoe, no fan of the Tozers, had said screw them, that as Ritchie’s boyfriend, Ash had the rights to so much more than a ratty old sweatshirt to remember him by; Jill would no doubt have said the same thing had she not made a point of being out of town that weekend so as to avoid the Tozers.

So he kept the sweater, slept in it every night, taking comfort from the smell of Ritchie’s scent.
