Summary: For lost_in_108 prompt #3: coincidence. As Eko discovers Yemi had crashed on the same island as him, he rethinks his stance on coincidence and fate.
“Don’t mistake coincidence for fate,” Eko had said to Locke the day he gave him the missing piece of the orientation film. And he’d believed that at the time. It had been Yemi, not Eko, who believed in fate, in faith.
Eko hadn’t believed it either when Charlotte Malkin spoke of his seeing Yemi again. That must have been some scheme of her father’s, the fraud.
It wasn’t until he discovered Yemi’s body on the same island where he himself had crashed that he realised she had been right after all.
It was not coincidence that the two brothers had crashed on the same island. It was fate.
