Title: There Are Words That Are Better Unheard
Characters: Sam, Diane, Kate.
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for What Kate Did only.
Summary: Written for lost_in_108 prompt #59: family. Sam Austen reflects that you don't have to be blood related to be a father.

They always say you can’t tell who a baby looks like at birth. But Sam had to admit he felt relieved that he could see nothing of Wayne in Kate’s face.

“She’s not yours, you son of a bitch,” Diane had screamed at him when he’d wanted to take Kate with him, anything to get her away from that animal Diane had married. And while his name was on the birth certificate, all Diane needed was a DNA test and she could prove that was true.

This way, he still gets to be a father to her. Blood doesn’t matter; Kate’s his daughter in every way that counts.
