Hey, digital world, I'm thinking about names today. Who assigned your name, and how was it chosen? Does it mean anything ( Read more... )

Erm... 'Yowane Haku' means 'speaking weak willed words'. My creators gave it to me after they realized I couldn't sing very well...

That...doesn't really fit, does it? Singing's not the same as speaking, right? And I'm sure you don't have a weak will!

W-well... in Japanese a lot of things can have a double meaning, or their translation is a little looser in English. 'Speaking' can also mean 'sighing', which can kind of be like singing, or making noise... I-I don't sing as badly as I used to, but the company that made my sister and I weren't too happy with their failures...

That makes a bit more sense, I guess, but it's still not really positive.

...what's English?

They couldn't match up to the success of the rival company, but to be honest they did kind of steal their secrets to make Neru and I. The original company sued them, and took us in. Taught us how to sing and preform better, so... its not all bad. I'm just not very confident is all. Oh. English is a language, as is Japanese.

Well, that's good of the rival company.

Ah, alright!

Erm... you only have one name, Miss Jenny? What would you choose for your second one?

Yep, just the one. Not sure. I thought the second name was always a family one, and my dad doesn't really have a name. I was thinking about using the one he occasionally uses, but...it's not a name I really think of as "that's me". And then Crash Man said I could pick a cool name, and now I'm talking to you, and your name means really means something about you...

It's a lot to think about!

It is. In Japan names often have many meanings. The Japanese language is pretty complicated, and tied also to Chinese, so sometimes people wind up with the translation meaning, and how their name is in Japanese Katana or Kanji as well as the Chinese meaning. It can get a little confusing, but my name is simple enough that it really only has one meaning. Haku is a pretty common name, too.

*laughs a little* Sort of like Jenny in English! But Yowane isn't really a family name, at least for me, but since you really can't go without a surname in Japan I kind of need it. We introduce ourselves with the names backwards. In English I would say "My name is Haku Yowane", but in Japanese, I would say "Watashi wa Yowane Haku desu". So names can be a lot to think about! Especially if you consider that Earth has so many different languages and ways of saying things. The Digital World is just as diverse, even more!

I don't even know what Jenny means... Donna just got it from "generated anomaly", I wasn't aware it was so common. And I didn't really know that Earth has lots of languages, either; I've never been. But I'm learning a lot from you, at least. :)

Jenny - common nickname of 'Jennifer', derived from the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, more commonly spelled GUINEVERE, meaning 'fair, white and smooth'. Guinevere was also made famous by the Arthurian legends as the name of King Arthur's wife.

I think that's a lovely name!

No problem! There's an advantage to being able to access all the public domain information from the Digital World's internet all from my head. ^.^

It is! Although I'm still getting used to having so much access. Where I came from it was limited to the intranet that our company had. Sometimes I have a weird glitch where it'll activate and look up the meaning of something without me doing it deliberately. And then I just spout off something random for no real reason! -laugh-
