Truth Be Told [3/6]

“Do you like JR? As more than a team mate, mentor, friend, ect.”

And he didn’t even hesitate. “Yeah. I really do, and have for some time now. Can you get the fifteen pound ones?” Simon just stared at him. “What? It only makes it a total of 120 pounds.”

Simon picked up one of the fifteen pound weight and placed it on the end of weight Apolo had been lifting a few minutes ago. “You’ve never acted on it. What’s keeping you from doing it?” He returned to the pile and came back with the matching weight.

Apolo got a sad look on his face. “He has no interest in me what so ever. I’m eight years older than him! Eight!? Besides he can get anyone he wants. Anyone at all.”

Simon nodded and placed the weight on the other side. “What makes you think that he can get anyone he wants? He hasn’t been in a relationship in almost three years.”

Apolo situated himself under the weight again. “He hasn’t dated because he hasn’t had the time to. I know that’s the only reason. Not that he’s told me anything. He doesn’t trust me with stuff like that. He wouldn’t even tell me if he liked someone. I asked him once who it was, Oh I can tell Simon, I can tell when people are thinking about someone special to the, and he just gave me a dirty look and ran off. It hurt a lot but I’m just not that important to him I guess.” He gave a sigh before preparing himself for the next round of lifts. “He’s just perfect Simon. Everything about him is perfect. His smile, his laugh, his sense of style, sense of humor. You name it, it is perfect.

Simon decided to give him a break and let him carry on with his work out. He remembers the day Apolo had asked JR because JR came running into the locker room Simon! He knows! I know he knows! Shit Simon what am I suppose to do?! He probably thinks I’m a freak. Thinking about it now, and now knowing Apolo’s thoughts made him laugh. They are both so friggen clueless.

Simon was thinking about how to continue on the conversation when Apolo stopped. Simon looked at him and he sat up. He looked away before asking, “Simon, I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this. I hate this feeling, whatever that may be. It’s frustrating. Me, “Apolo pointed to himself, “Apolo Ohno can’t even fucking confess to someone that he likes them.”

“Dude just tell him. Trust me. He’ll understand. Let’s go back to the rooms. Maybe you should go and talk to JR about this. Must be heavy on you.”

Apolo nodded and left to go get changed. Simon didn’t bother, he’ll just shower and change when he gets back.

Not only did he find out that Apolo did like JR, he found out there was no way that he was going to let Apolo be tricked into telling JR this way like originally planned.  Simon was so deep in thought he didn’t hear Apolo come back in.

“What you thinking about kid? Trying to figure out how to get better than me?” Simon shook his head. Maybe this would work.

“How about I set you up on a blind date with JR? Pretend it’s some random person or make it a dare or something.” Apolo didn’t say anything and Simon looked at him. Apolo just stared at him with a confused look on his face.

“What are you talking about Simon? Why would I go on a date with JR?” Apolo walked slowly over to the bags, packing his clothes away.

“You just said that you liked him.” Apolo turned around quickly, losing his balance and falling over.

“What are you talking about? No I didn’t! We were quiet this whole time.”

Simon looked at him with the same confused look that was on Apolo’s face a few moments ago. What was Apolo doing? It’s not like that whole conversation never happened.

“You said you did, but didn’t know what to do about it because JR could have anyone. And that you are eight years older than him….” It was quiet before Apolo got back up, dusting himself off.

“What little crazy world are you living in? Did you read a bunch of fanfiction?” Apolo’s smile returned, but Simon knew what that was. It was his defense system. He was trying to act all cool.

“I don’t know, maybe…” Maybe…maybe! Simon quickly ran over to his own bag and pulled out the bottle of truth serum. He put it up to the light, not caring if Apolo saw it.

“What the hell is that?” Simon paid no attention and quickly scanned the bottle trying to find anything that might make sense. And he found it.

“Oh….no…”
