So the other day, under circumstances that made sense and the time at are, incidentally, all
darkrose's fault, I got earwormed with "Aqualung." After having bits and pieces of it rattling around in my head for a couple of days, I finally played The Very Best of Jethro Tull tonight.
One of the amazing things about listening to music you haven't listened to in decades--seriously, the last time I listened to Tull or stations that played Tull was in the late 80s--is that you rediscover music you'd totally forgotten about. Because, yeah of course I remember "Aqualung," and "Bungle in the Jungle" and Too Old for Rock n Roll" and "Minstrel in the Gallery" but how could I have forgotten "The Whistler?" I loved that song back in the day.

I saw them in Stuttgart once in the summer of 82--the Broadsword and the Beast tour--and let me say, they put on one hell of a show.* Wikipedia says that was their last "exceedingly theatrical" tour and really, that's the perfect phrase to describe the show.
*I went with the guy we now refer to as "that boyfriend of Ruth's who once hit 24 parked cars in a row," but that's another story.
