Oh John....
So, it turns out that while Trust!John is very submissive in bed and is a masochist, he is actually a little bit of a...huh, what would call the equivalent of a feminist in a BDSM verse? He's not particularly political but he's firmly in favor of Sub Lib. Unless it's a special occasion, he doesn't dress up or wear much in the way of make up, and while he had his ears pierced in high school, he let the holes close over when he joined the Air Force after college. He didn't take Nancy's name when they married and he had a seperate account and all the things a modern sub would do.
And yet, deep down inside, he's kind of an old-fashioned romantic and he likes doing things like making himself pretty for his top and so on, but that's a side of himself he really only shows to people he really trusts. So yeah, he's got a lot of contradictions going on and I kind of like that about him.
I need to do some backstory on Rodney too and figure out more about him. I already know that while he's been through therapy and tries to be sensitive to what his subs need, he's still completely blind to his own privilege and eventually he and John are going to have to have a talk about that.
And to think I started this out with the intention of writing just porn. I can see why helenish wanted to write "Take Clothes Off As Directed"; trying to figure out how this kind of society would work is fascinating. Although, you have to handwave a lot because if we really were separated like that instead of on a gender basis, the world would be a very different place.
Also? I'm still going to bring the porn, so no worries there. :)
