So I was watching "Vegas" again the other night and I had a thought.

I just assumed they already knew he had the gene because they'd already met at least one other version of him in another AU ... one who presumably flew jumpers and operated other Ancient tech (or was at least still able to be "a hero").

I also just assumed Rodney didn't bother with any proof-by-touch because he knew this John wasn't really ready for it ... if ever. This John is on a pretty long slide into self-destruction, imo.

(I'm sure I heard Ronon or Teyla make a reference sometime in S4 or S5 to Ronon's study of poetry, but otherwise I don't think we ever heard of any actual work he did outside of his position as a Specialist in the military. I would totally buy the geeking out thing, though in my mind it would be over musty scrolls and forgotten libraries instead of white labcoats. Though, come to think of it, he did seem rather enamoured of carrying the nonclone!Beckett's bags and such for him whenever they were offworld. I don't know if that was in thanks for the doctor removing the tracking device or the Satedan equivalent of carrying a girl's books in high school ... *g*).

Okay, I'll stop now. My fingers runneth over with AU nonsense. ;-)

* is full of inspiration and ideas *

Thank you! You've patched over some plotholes nicely. (I think the writers had a vague idea of Ronon being similar to the Japanese samurai, with the poetry and knives and all....)

Heh heh. You'll be gratified to know that when visiting some people for Christmas dinner, a comment was made about how many knives the wife of the couple had. The kids immediately perked up, whispering how cool it was that she was just like Ronon!

(I had assumed they were referring to knives used in the culinary arts, of which we were happily indulging in -- totally amazing! -- but of course, perhaps the kids were correct, and she has other things she does with her sharp pointy metal things! We didn't ask about poetry, sadly. ;-) )

Probably best not to ask about the poetry... hard to refuse a dramatic reading of bad poetry by someone well-armed....

Hee! Your kids are well on their way to a life of fandom, aren't they?
