So we all know that Merope is the faintest star in the Pleiades. We've all figured out that. But how is it that I did not know this piece of Greek mythology? According to dictionary.com, and this is definition number one, mind, not definition number two:
Merope: Greek Mythology. One of the Pleiades, who hid her face in shame after marrying a mortal.
Holy crap. That's all I have to say. I'm not coherent anymore. Holy crap.
ETA: Now I wonder why we're so convinced that it must be the Pleiades sister Merope. Apparently, there's
several Meropes recorded.
