Voice Of Undeath! Sort Of!
I was wrong. Well..sort of half wrong. A guy who did the voice of Timer died, but not the guy I mentioned earlier. Oh, he might be dead as well, but not that I can tell.
It's like this: in the first ABC edutainment special thingies in the 70's featuring the Timer character, he was apparently voiced by Len Maxwell. So when I heard "The voice of Timer died", and checked for the name, that's who I thought they meant. But in later Timer appearances (including as far as I can tell the classic "Hunka Cheese" clip) he was voiced by Lennie Weinrib, who I knew, but not as the voice of Timer. Instead I knew of him as the voice of (and head writer for) H.R. Puf'n'stuf.
So, to recap: Len Maxwell did voice Timer, but is probably not dead. Lennie Weinrib also voiced Timer, probably the Timer voice most of us actually remember, and yeah, he's passed away.
