sightings:
1) yesterday, while my dad and i were shoveling landscaping stones around the swimming pool, a cardinal flew down to have a drink from the rainwater that collected on the pool cover. we stopped work and watched it for a little while, both remarking how rare it is to see one in this area.
2) an hour later, two birds that i take to be sparrows flew down and started fighting with each other all around the pool. my dad said, "what do we do in this case?"
3) just ten minutes ago, i heard heavier wings than usual flapping by my back window and some quacks. i looked out and i saw that three ducks had landed in the even bigger pond (created by last night's rain) on the pool cover. the two that i think were males (by their coloration and everything) were fighting like nobody's business. the third (which i think is the female) was just hanging around, quacking at the other two. finally, one male flew off and the remaining male and female are just swimming around now. let me look. they are just swimming around looking nervous and cleaning themselves. i took some pictures, maybe later i'll post them if they look like something.
