Trying on a New Life (RP for splice-of-life)

Matt sat on the edge of the bed, nudging one of his unpacked boxes with his foot. He'd never planned to take over Mohinder's room, and he wasn't going to make anything permanent. Not yet. But the man was right; healing gunshot wounds would have been even less pleasant if he'd been sleeping on the couch ( Read more... )

Matt had a point there and Mohinder laughed. "Good. I get a few looks taking her to school sometimes. I just did not wish for you to think anything of me that was not true." Mohinder's fingers touched Matt's forehead, just enough to push back the hair at his temples. It was a bit of an overly affectionate gesture, but Mohinder was somewhat touchy.

He smiled wryly. "Believe me, I'd know. You wouldn't hurt a fly, Mohinder." He shivered at the touch. He wasn't sure what he felt about it.

"Just a few spiders," Mohinder replied as cooly and casually as ever. "Which is probably unfortunate. I might have accidentally killed one of my aunts." That was said with only a small smile. He was joking of course. "I'll be back in a few moments. Don't try to get up and finish your tea."

"Sure, Mom," Matt said, grinning to show he was joking. He leaned back in his chair, trying to take some of the strain off his stitches.

"I'm not old enough to be your mother!" Mohinder's laughter was infectious, his pretty eyes glowing just before turning back around. "I'd rather be your wife." It didn't even dawn on him how wrong that sounded!

"You'd be a better wife than Janice," he spat out bitterly, before he could think about what he was sayng.

That made Mohinder turn around slightly. If he was blushing -- and he was -- it was hard to tell. Sometimes he thanked the gods for giving him a smooth, caramel complexion. Cheeks hot, the Indian crossed his arms over his chest. He didn't like the sound in his voice, so he decided to continue the joke. "It's a deal then, Matt. But I will not wear an apron in the kitchen, frilly or otherwise."

"Wait, what?" Matt blinked at him, trying to figure out what had just happened. He played back the last few minutes in his head, then slowly turned red. "I, uh, you know I didn't mean..."

"Oh, no no. You can't take it back now!" Mohinder went to collect Molly and let Matt stew for a little while. In his mind, he kept on happy thoughts, like songs to sing while Molly was in the bathtub. He wasn't sure if Matt would try to scan his mind after all and the look that man had given him was priceless.

And actually somewhat attractive. Mohinder smirked at himself in the hallway. Really? Matt was not his type.

"Ass," he laughed after the man, then reached for the remote to watch TV as he finished his tea. He was surprised that he wasn't more upset, but something about the other man just made him want to smile. Even the thought of Janice wasn't going to spoil his mood.

After Molly was bathed and her homework was checked and they all had a chocolate chip cookie and endured something on the Disney Channel, Mohinder took the girl back to bed while Matt was in the bathroom, carefully washing himself. Mohinder would redress the bandage when he was finished and indeed was waiting in his old bedroom when the larger man returned from kissing Molly's forehead.

Matt pushed his damp hair out of his face as he went through the door, feeling slightly awkward in just his pajama pants. "I'm ready when you are," he said, shrugging carefully.

Maybe Mohinder was taking this too far, but the joke was still weighing on him. He found the idea strangely thrilling. He was a family man, even if he did not look it. He desperately wanted a family of his own. "We have something to discuss," he said evenly, gazing seriously into Matt's eyes.

Matt's initial reaction was what did I do? He shook himself and managed a weak smile. "Yeah? What's that?"

"Which side of the bed do you sleep on?" Mohinder asked, blandly really, though his dark eyes shimmered with mischief. He was taking the joke too far and had no idea.

He stared at him for a moment, then blinked, still not letting that connect. "I... what?"
