Blizzard of 2016

Jan 25, 2016 20:15

The big blizzard started around 9:15 PM in my part of Brooklyn and lasted all day Saturday until about 11 PM Saturday night. I went up to the local bagel / breakfast place Saturday morning around 8:30 AM and had a nice breakie, and enjoying the view out the big windows. The wind started picking up around 9 and I left for the 3 block walk home. I went out to enjoy the snow a few more time. The winds were pretty stiff on Saturday afternoon, and the snow felt like little needles when it hit your face. Brooklyn got 27 inches total, although parts of Queens received well over 30 inches. The snowfall at Central Park is 25.1" which is the 3rd greatest in NYC since 1869. Snow cont. to fall. Record is 26.9" Feb 11-12 2006. (New York Times) Day 2 after the storm, people are raising hell about some tertiary streets aren't plowed yet; and homeowners in New Jersey are pissed about beaches dunes that didn't hold up to the storm- I'm not surprised by that, the dunes had very little vegetation on them to secure them.
