So
midnighter is writing and starring in the 48-hour film project at AI. One of the scenes involved his character 'rescuing' a cat. Enter Buttons, our 10-year-old calico.
We originally considered George for the part - at first glance, he would seemed to be the most relaxed of our kitties - but when Daddy took him outside, he immediately started to squirm to get away. Cleopatra didn't even make it to the front door before starting her frantic struggles. So hubby said, 'Let's try Buttons!' Ripley was not even considered - she went to hide the moment all the excitement started and right now I'm certain she's still squeezed in the narrow space under Ron's dresser.
Buttons was an extremely good kitty, letting Daddy carry her around outside in the blazing heat with only a little meowing and no struggling. The basic idea was that Ron was this 'hero' cum idiot who was constantly rescuing a neighbor's cat. The neighbor doesn't even own a cat, so the script called for her to wait for the hero to walk away, then put the cat down as quickly as possible. I was waiting off-screen to make sure Buttons didn't try to make a break for it. Hah! During the second take, the actress put her down and went back in the house - we all got a laugh because Buttons ran in right under her feet. The kitties in my house know a good thing - it's hot out here and cool inside - and Buttons is by far the smartest of our lot.
For her cooperation, Buttons was paid with treats and a lot of pampering. I'm really looking forward to her on-screen debut!
