In Character Information

character name: Heine Rammsteiner
Fandom: DOGS: Bullets and Carnage
Timeline: The end of Chapter 6
character's age: Early twenties, probably 22 or so.

powers, skills, pets and equipment: Heine underwent genetic manipulation when he was very young, and can recover at abnormal rates. It's assumed that nothing can kill him except for a point-blank shot to the head, as he's recovered from everything short of that, and he is also much stronger than he looks. Heine carries two guns - one is a Mauser C96 that's connected to a black Luger P08 pistol by a long chain. He can use the chain to choke and restrain people during combat. He is an incredibly good fighter, and can take down large crowds of armed men within minutes.

canon history: Heine does not remember anything of his past before waking up with a metal ring, a 'collar' around his neck in an underground facility. The 'collar' was implanted by a woman named Angelika Einsturzen and her fellow scientists. The collar was implanted along with a 'spine,' a piece of technology that made him stronger and faster than normal children his age, and indeed most adults. The spine was part of the Kerberos Project, an experiment meant to make soldiers for an underground army.

He (and other subjects of the Kerberos Project) were all about eight or nine years old. They were put through experiments and trials that tested their regenerative ability, as well as their fighting capability. The first experiment, just after he woke up, entailed being attacked by a huge, vicious creature that was several times larger than the young children. Dr. Angelika was the one controlling the beast, and encouraged the children to fight it despite the apparent impossibility. Arms were ripped off and small bodies were thrown against the wall. It was all Heine could do to hide himself from the raging creature.

When he looked back up, he saw Lilly, the girl who had explained to him that everyone had woken up in this place with no memories of their past, completely murdering the animal the doctor 'affectionately' named Kevin. Heine could not understand how she could do this, especially when 'Kevin' was killed and Lilly came to him, just as confused as he was. It turned out that the 'spines' implanted in their bodies gave them superhuman strength and the ability to regenerate almost immediately. However, during moments of intense emotion or violence, the spine would take over.

The subjects of the Kerberos experiment were eventually pitted against one another in an attempt to find which one of them was the strongest. During the fight, in which there were no weapons but their hands, almost all of the children lost control of their spines, Heine included. When he awoke, he found himself clutching Lilly's head and standing on top of a heap of dead bodies. This caused him to develop an irrational dislike of women, and he tries not to have any contact with them if possible.

There was a period of time during which Heine became the doctor's favorite. He and Giovanni were the few 'experiments' left. After somehow escaping from the underground laboratory where the Kerberos experiments took place, he was taken in by a blind bishop who set him up with a job above ground as a mercenary of sorts. Heine learned to survive in a violent, almost post-apocalyptic world where children were still being experimented on.

Heine eventually partnered up with Badou Nails, another gunman, and the pair often worked together, taking on jobs and taking down mafia and shady organizations. Recently, however, characters from Heine's past have been showing up, such as Giovanni, another subject from the Kerberos Project, and other 'experiments' from the underground facilities.

He almost the only subject of the Kerberos experiment left, and presumed to be the only one 'above ground,' as Giovanni still works for Dr. Einsturzen. He is the main character of the story - one of the 'Stray Dogs.' He tends to be the one who helps Badou out of sticky situations and get information out of other people, usually with a loaded gun.

At this point, Heine has been meeting other people connected to Dr. Einsturzen and those who work with her, and is thus becoming very wary of just about everyone. At the end of the sixth chapter, he has met Naoto, someone who was also attacked by one of Dr. Einsturzen's allies. Giovanni, whom he hates because of how he led attacks on the above ground and is a reminder of the Kerberos experiments, has also begun appearing, and Dr. Einsturzen is planning something that he knows will involve attacking the cities above ground.

personality: Heine could be called a walking example of an introvert. He represses his emotions as well as he can, and rarely talks unless he is talked to first. That doesn't mean he's meek and kind, however. Heine is vicious. He will kick and punch and even bite when someone attacks him. He once bit off part of a man's face for trying to contain him. Heine is usually bitingly sarcastic and won't pay attention to anyone unless they prove themselves to be someone who is not a fool - or too much of one.

When people get close to him, Heine becomes intensely protective of them. One example is Nill, a girl who was also genetically altered. She is the only female he can stand at the moment, as his experience in the underground with Lilly left him wary of people in general and especially women. He does feel close to Nill because she also went through similar operations and experiments. The only other person who is close to him is Badou. Heine does what he can to ensure that his nicotine-addicted partner stays out of trouble. He will go into dangerous situations to make sure that Badou stays alive.

Heine is a tough man, and he won't give in to anybody who tries to take control of him. He hates being patronized or pitied, and won't take shit from anyone. He has rather loose morals, and would walk past a crime being committed in the street if he felt that it would be inconvenient to stop. The only time he will soften up is around Nill, and that's partly because he knows Nill won't be able to say anything back.

His sense of humor is kind of dead and gone as a result of those years spent under ground, but he is shown to be darkly amused sometimes by people he considers to be useless and dishonorable pleading for mercy, as he believes that those who gave no mercy deserve none. He tries to distance himself from everyone else because he doesn't want to have emotional attachments.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? He comes from a world where you could get shot every time you walk down the street, and survival is the name of the game. Heine knows what it's like to be fighting for your life and he can deal with crimes.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:

[The loud rattle of metal on metal precedes the appearance of a white gun being loaded with practiced precision. The chain connected to the base of the gun swings lightly in the air as the gunman sits down where the camera can tape him.]

If someone doesn't tell me where the hell I am in five minutes, I am going to shoot something.

[He's obviously serious, and the young albino male leans back in the chair, tucking the white pistol into its holster before taking out a second gun, this time all black.]

And I'm not going to check whether it's alive or not.

[The albino scowls, an expression clearly familiar to his pale face, before beginning to load the second gun.]

I'm waiting.

Third Person Sample:

"Giovanni, you fucking bastard..."

A strained hiss is followed by a thump - someone has crashed against the wall. That someone is leaning heavily on the white-washed walls, leaving reddish smears of thick liquid.

Heine Rammsteiner growls angrily, for a moment sounding very much like a dog. The albino male drops to the ground, legs stretched out in front of him and head down. He lets out a few hacking coughs, his hand pressed to his mouth. He slowly regulates his breathing, still seething with anger and bleeding.

But the bleeding is already slowing, and his many cuts and bullet wounds are healing up as you watch. Heine flings something towards the corner - bullets, still stained with his blood and making a loud clatter as they hit the ground.

Heine snarls furiously and pushes himself back up, two guns still in his pale hands. He looks around warily, red eyes narrowed his face twisted into a vicious scowl.

"Fuck. Giovanni, what the hell are you playing at?" Turning around slowly, Heine is more than ready to shoot at anything that attacks him - in fact, he looks liable to shoot anything that moves. The albino man's frown turns into something of a grimace, as he realizes that there really isn't anyone there.

He relaxes slowly, lowering his guns but still tense.

"...where the hell am I?"

Heine has gone loose now, hands hanging by his side and red gaze taking in more than just the barest shapes and threats.

He glances around and sees the Forge, lying innocently on the table near where he'd left those lovely bloodstains. Heine makes his way over and eyes it for a moment - there had been so much news of bombings and explosives in their part of town, he really didn't want to go near it. But it looked like the only promising thing in the room (other than the door), so he put away his guns for the moment and picked it up with more than a little trepidation.

Anything else? Oh look, here I am trying again. xD And there is actually a scene in the manga where Heine spits out the bullets he was shot with.
