In-Game Character Information
Name: people call him Kusuri Iuri, though he has no given name and 'kusuri iuri' basically translates to 'medicine seller.'
Series: Mononoke
Age: somewhere around 28
Personality: Despite his job (or jobs - as medicine seller, mononoke killer, counselor, teacher, etc.), the medicine seller is not exactly the best person to entrust your life to. Oh, on the outside, of course, he's amiable enough. Or that might be the face paint. If you talk to him a little more, though, you'll find that you're dealing with someone who talks like a circle and gives up about as much information as a rock.
Outwardly gentle and fairly friendly, the medicine seller seems to tolerate most people's company - whether it be for a smoke, a quick drink, or even a ship voyage. He'll talk, though it might be less than most people are used to, choosing his words carefully and speaking very, very, slowly. He listens carefully, though it may not seem like it, to everything.
When it comes down to demons, however, the medicine seller can be extraordinarily unconcerned about other people's safety. During the ship incident, he knew that they were sailing towards a dangerous area and did absolutely nothing to stop it. He didn't even mention it in passing to the other passengers - he just sat back, smoked, and watched. People have accused him of enjoying the danger, of being amused by their fear and just looking for mononoke to face off with. He doesn't say a word, though - just smiles, and says something vague and possibly meaningful. But you never know with the medicine seller.
He will, on occasion, give advice or actually teach something, but it's always a little messy with him. He might be more distracted by the weather or by anything, really. When it comes down to really giving information, he's hard to pin down. He seems to be almost lazy in his actions and only does work when he really has to. He can focus with almost one-minded concentration on a particular happening, giving him an advantage in the learning of mental magic.
His facial expression barely changes. With strange purple coloring on his upper lip (paint? lipstick? birthmark?) making him look amused at any given time, the medicine seller watches the surrounding going-ons with detachment and rarely useful comments. During serious situations, however, the medicine seller becomes persuasive and actually of use to others. Overall, the medicine seller is a quirky individual who seems to be very, very out of it and has little regard for other people's opinions - but maybe a little for their safety.
Though one of his... 'clients' has asked him this: "Just who are you saving? Us, or the mononoke?"
Background:
(Most of this is written from scratch, as there is no canon history for the medicine seller.)
His own records are nowhere to be found, but the medicine seller has spent most of his years in Japan, though where he picked up his strange and old-fashioned clothing style is a mystery. With a slight inclination towards Illusionary Magic and Augury, he grew in a hardly developed land, staying at a nearly empty orphanage with several other young children. It appeared to the orphanage owner that he had been abandoned for the strange way he attracted mononoke. Mononoke were born of human vices and often remarkably dangerous, but often mistaken for just other magical creatures. The medicine seller later began to seek them out rather than letting them find him, using his sword as a guide.
But his first encounters with real mononoke happened quite early in his life - no orphanage is a completely happy place, after all. The mononoke had been born from the deceased children of the orphanage, killed by neglect and following the orphanage owner as an ato-oi-kozō. The orphanage owner was being harassed by the ato-oi-kozō to almost death, and somehow the medicine seller learned of the owner's dislike towards children, as her own son had died by accidentally poisoning himself. The Sword of Exorcism (left with him at the orphanage at birth, along with a small box of what looked like children's toys) found its way to his hand some way or another, as if it had taken itself out of the locked cabinet where the orphanage owner kept valuables. He drew the sword and killed the mononoke, moving by instinct rather than learned skill. This was the first time he used the Sword of Exorcism. Once the mononoke had been killed, he then left, carrying only the sword and the set of beautifully painted scales that had been with the sword.
He disappeared for a while, reappearing at Hogwarts with his sword, scales, and a huge box of rare and obscure wizarding cures on his back. No one has ever bothered asking him where he went, but the medicine seller seems to have spent these years seeking out mononoke in Asia and getting rid of them, though there are more He had taken up the use of Illusionary Magic somewhere along the way, and had a couple of run-ins with Asian wizarding laws because of his lack of a good moral base. His childhood had been almost destroyed by the way mononoke were drawn to him, and even after a few years, he had trouble with understanding what others considered wrong and right. Now, he had a surprising amount of magical knowledge, particularly in Augury (with his strange scales) and White Magic.
Blood: part chocobo Full
Preferred House: Ravenclaw
Why you think they belong in this house? Despite having no formal education, he picks up information quickly and remembers it. He thinks quickly and can make things work, and is highly perceptive.
Staff Position: the headmaster's phoenix professor of Health and Medicine (and general White Magic, though the focus is on healing)
Why you think they fit this position? Despite appearing totally unmotivated, the medicine seller would like to teach younger witches and wizards to take care of themselves.
If Professor would you want them to be Head of House? No.
Roleplay Samples
Journal Sample:(first person)
[A curiously dressed individual is visible in the feed, apparently not paying any attention. He has his back to the camera and there's smoke rising from something in front of him. Before you can worry about his shirt being on fire, though, he turns around and smiles with a pipe in his hand.]
[With a second look, though, he's not actually smiling. It's a curious design of purple coloring (perhaps face paint) that gives the illusion of a permanent smile. When he speaks, it's in a voice that has very little emotional inflection.]
If anyone is taking the Health and Medicine class, I will be your professor.
[He pauses, inspects the wall next to him.]
That is all.
Roleplay Sample: (third person)
The door was open. Wide open. And yet no one seemed to even consider entering his room. Which was fine by him, really. Though it really was a pleasant place - clean and seemingly wide open, with spare but comfortable furniture and open windows.
He exhaled purple smoke and tilted his head slowly to one side, ash-blond hair falling off of his shoulder. It was very quiet this afternoon. The medicine seller wondered half-heartedly if there were demons preventing entry. It wouldn't be the first time. On the train, before - there had been that disconnected carts cut off from the rest of the train - and the world. It had been... amusing, really.
A sigh, and sweet smelling smoke wafted out of his mouth and slowly dissipated into the air. Really, why wasn't anyone here? Wasn't it time for the first period? He should check his notebook. Ah, but it was on the other side of his table. Too far. And besides, if anyone was late, it was his students. The medicine seller frowned - just a little. He felt like he was forgetting something. Not that it mattered - he would remember eventually. He always remembered. Eventually.
The weather was quite nice today, he noted. There weren't many people outside, though. He really should check his schedule. There was something different today. Twirling his pipe around in his fingers, the medicine seller straightened in his chair and stayed sitting up for a moment or two. Yes, he should really check his schedule. The medicine seller finally took his geta-clad feet off the desk and flipped open his notebook to take a look at the schedule. After a moment, he sat back in his seat and closed his eyes.
Ah. Today was Saturday.
Well, at least he knew why no one was coming in. No wonder no one had even passed through the hallway (it was filled with a curious smell that came from the pipe he was smoking, and would have deterred most visitors anyway). Not that it bothered him - it was nice being all alone in his classroom.
The medicine seller breathed in and out, leaving fading smoke in the air and no shadow of worry in his mind.
Character name: Kusuri Iuri (or the medicine seller)
Canon weapon/Item: the Sword of Exorcism
Specific properties/abilities: Used to kill mononoke, the Sword of Exorcism can only be drawn when a mononoke's form (what it is), truth (how it came to be), and regret (why it came into being) are determined. Once drawn, the medicine seller's entire appearance changes for a very short period of time (usually less than a minute) while the sword is used to kill the mononoke.
How will this be translated to Hogwarts? The Sword of Exorcism would probably be an Arcane and Elemental weapon. Mononoke are present in all parts of the world, as products of human vice. Any mononoke causing harm to the school would be sought out and killed (after he finds the form, truth, and regret).
Why do you want them to have this weapon/item at school? It's very important to the medicine seller's character and attitude.
IC - Only applies if you wish the item to be school approved
Name: Kusuri Iuri
Year/Position: Professor for Health and Medicine
Item/Weapon: the Sword of Exorcism
Why do you wish to have this weapon/item on the school grounds? In case of trouble with mononoke.
I, Kusuri Iuri, solemnly swear that if I am granted permission to have the Sword of Exorcism on school grounds, that it will be used responsibly and never to the detriment of staff or students.
Anything extra? It's basically a creepy ogre-head decoration on a red jeweled handle and a huge flaming blade sticking out of it.
