Thank you for sharing your story. When I read Jaheem's story earlier, it just hurt my heart to be reminded of how cruel people can be, even at such a young age.
I'm certainly glad, for one, that you were able to find people who cared, and helped, and so you're here with us today. :)
It wasn't until I went to the hypercompetitive ivy-prep school in fifth grade that I realized being smart and interested in things was somehow frowned upon by other kids. I was *very* lucky that in elementary school, I was at a small private school, and while I was definitely labelled "weird" very early on, there wasn't any bullying that I can remember, or even much in the way of teasing.
That certainly changed when I started going to public schools when we moved to the East Coast, but I like to believe that by thirteen, I was secure enough in my sense of self that I didn't ever feel quite so depressed.
