Well, I'm back and just resting and chilling from all the running around I've done over the past few days (especially Christmas Eve and Day). Going to try to rewind back a bit and go over the highlights.
So last weekend (due to my actual Birthday Weekend being tied up with work all weekend), I decided to get some rest, get my car checked out, my leg checked out (of which they said it was okay, but need me to head to the Orthopedics just to make sure if my leg continued to have minor problems.), and managed to get a haircut (which was definitely needed). It was during early last week that I decided to go with my friends to paintball. I like paintball, as there's a lot of strategy and teamwork going on with it and I just like the atmosphere for some reason. So how did it go? Well I got to play with a couple of my coworker's and family friends using borrowed paintball markers. We got to play all about 5 hours worth of paintball and had lots of fun.
Did I get any bruises? Not so much. But from what I did notice, I'm mostly a team player that tries to help others out and lay down suppressive fire and also intel gathering to help others. Also, because my leg was still kind of bad, I held back a bit. Overall there was some intense moments of action going on, but overall, I liked every minute of it. My only pet peeve was running out of Gas (as paintball markers use either CO2 or Nitrous), and/or running out of ammo during the game. Other than that, it's a fun sport. The combat high you get due to the adrenaline was pretty good, but the overall crashing afterward with the muscle soreness hits you all at once.
So during last weekend I managed to have a Japanese Dinner with folks from out of town and it was pretty fun. I had already eaten just after paintball, I was still hungry for more (due to the energy loss and recoop that had to happen for my legs). But yeah, the food was great at where we headed and there was some interesting conversations about different things like the whole concept that was depicted in "Eyes Wide Shut", cosplay, and just catching up on what people were up to.
So just after dinner, I decided to pass by and see some folks at Oni-con. I didn't enter the actual convention space, but I was sort of lucky at the time. If there something about divine timing, I believe it. The reason? Well in just one hour (the amount of time I was there since I was just passing through on my way to home), I managed to see a lot of the folks that I was looking for to catch up with or say hello. And the lucky part of it was that they were all within the lobby area of the hotel. This included
Proz,
squidflakes,
serinance and Jeri within that timeframe. I wish I could have seen a few more faces, but then again, I'm thankful at least I got to see anybody at all (especially at 12:30 in the morning on Sunday morning)). So after parting the hotel, headed back home, got some well deserved sleep, recovered some more on Sunday and back to work on Monday.
So being the slacker that I am sometimes, I was doing the mad dash earlier this week to get out Christmas Cards. Hope that they made it. I think I did pretty well in getting them out, but I should have given myself more time to get them out to you before Christmas. As this was my first time sending out cards in my life, I know I missed a lot of people. Hopefully, for next year, I'll plan this out earlier and send them out on November 26th instead. There were a few that gave me a bit of trouble (since I forgot addresses for them), but I still got through it. So I managed to make the goal that I thought up of and hopefully I can remember this for next time I roll through this.
So still struggling with the whole Katsucon trip as since I'm still unsure of getting the ticket or not (with the possibility of being already in VA). Hopefully I can make a decision later on tomorrow, since I'll have time at work to deal with it. But yeah, wouldn't mind heading out there at least once. We'll see how it goes with the work situation and everything else. Also might find out soon if I have to do a business trip overseas. Although the possibility is strong that I might get pulled, the problem with the trip is that it would overlap on Katsucon. So yeah, we'll see how it goes.
So yesterday was strange. Crashed out on Tuesday Night, woke up at 12 AM Christmas Eve, and proceeded to fix up cards, my place, and still head to work. All the while, I forgot the ingredients I was supposed to get on Tuesday night for the desert I was supposed to make, so that had to be done yesterday morning. Then got back home at 2 PM, fell asleep, and woke up at 2:30 PM to start cooking the. The desert? Well the standard one that my mom usually does, Babingka of course. So, had to get that ready, get ready for the Christmas Dinner that night at my friend's place. Then take a one hour drive down south of Houston to see them and have fun over at their place.
While there, had fried turkey for the first time in awhile, play a Filipino card game that my Dad plays with a couple of folks (and also get to call my dad on how to play a specific situation. And this was my first time playing the game too), listen to stories of how people were doing from our hometown in SC, head to Church for Midnight mass, and finally head back home to my apartment so I could get ready for today's lunch. So in all from yesterday to this morning, I was up for about 28 hours or so. And today was no different.
So today, had to wake up, get another round of desert ready for another lunch with a couple of different friends I knew, and head down there. So I managed to get in a bit of trouble when one of my friends and I managed to invade the lunch table early with all the food. Oh well, it was going to happen anyway. So we managed to talk and catch up and have some great food. Then I headed over to see a few more friends and catch up with them as well. So I'm back safely in my apartment and ready to sleep it all off.
So whew, it's been a long week (and I may expand on a few things once I get some sleep or something). Well I'm off to bed. Hope all of you are doing alright and are doing well. Got work in the morning, so catch up with you soon. Take care and stay safe out there. Ciao ciao for now.
Sincerely,
Ed :)
