Christmas in Guild Wars

Dec 29, 2005 23:46

Remember my post earlier on Halloween in Guild Wars? Well they came through for Christmas as expected, and boy did they go the extra mile doing it! Here's the rundown on the update, and pictures to remember the event by.

1. Newly redesigned areas to fit the Christmas theme. Check out the pictures to see what they changed, but it was all very beautiful, to be honest.

2. For starters, there were two new quests that dealt with a couple of gods in the game's lore that competed during the Wintersday season. Completing them rewarded a player with candy-themed items, like a peppermint candy shield and gingerbread wands.

3. A new PVP arena was built to celebrate the season - a snowball fight arena! I had a hilarious time, especially with arena-specific skills like Yellow Snow (take a guess why it's yellow) and Hidden Rock. I was laughing throughout all the battles, and they were a whole lot of fun to play.

4. Candy cane weapons! They're not all that strong or useful (except for the sword which I found an ingenious use for), but they're fun to have for show. Also, a new weapon was introduced that's going for exorbitant rates in the black market, so damn, I gotta get me some of that.

5. Finally, ArenaNet's gift to the players: Observer Mode for high-ranking Guild battles! Just in time to test it out before the World Championships begin.

I'm still impressed by ArenaNet's continued improvement on the game, and still can't get my head around the fact that it's such an incredible game despite having no monthly fee (reports tell me that one of its competitors here in the Philippines, RF Online, will be going paid at 500 bucks a month - aww. /sarcasm). I guess their awards speak for themselves, having won numerous RPG/MMORPG of the Year awards from a number of places. Major props for giving us a great Christmas event that's been loads of fun. Gotta get back in there, but for now, here's some more pictures!

3. The Tomb of Primeval Kings decked in festive decor
