Elumens VisionStation

Behold the VisionStation by Elumens, a supposedly low-cost 3D immersive system that appears to give an unprecedented field of view for computer and simulation use. Man, imagine playing first-person shooters in this thing. I mean seriously, if the guy looks happy now, wait 'till he's getting a faceful of rockets in the heat of battle. And editing videos! Imagine the length of your timeline if you put the display on a high resolution. Mmm, giant desktop.

Standard flat-screen applications can display a field of view (FOV) of no more than 60°. The Elumens VisionStation allows for a fully immersive display of 160°. The VisionStation's ultra-wide FOV creates an amazing sense of space and depth, without need for goggles or glasses. The large size of the VisionStation screen (1.5 meters) also helps promote an excellent sense of immersive 3D.

Hopefully they pull through with the product and really be low-cost about it. Should the price be right, that's definitely a monitor worth developing tailored applications and movies for. Also check out the ginormous room-sized versions that give new meaning to the term "home theater."

Time to pull out MechWarrior [Elumens]
