id Software Looking for a Webmaster
Ever consider working for a famous game company? I recently caught wind of one such job opening, and guess who for: id Software, makers of fine FPS games, engines, and all things deathmatch.
id Software is looking for someone to join our team as Webmaster and all-around Internet guru. The position involves typical daily duties coding and updating idsoftware.com as well as management of the id Online Store. Additionally, our webmaster is responsible for administering a number of id game servers as well as offering creative and technical advice on external web projects like out individual game sites.
Candidate requirements:
▪ At least 2 years experience developing/coding websites in .php and .html
▪ Experience running and managing first-person game servers
▪ Strong writing and communication skills
▪ Knowledge and understanding of "game community" including fan sites, IRC, message boards, etc.
▪ Firm grasp of web art creation and management tools
▪ Strong understanding of computer hardware and software systems
▪ Adaptability. id is a small company and everyone does a lot of different jobs. You must be comfortable occasionally working long hours, and taking on responsibilities outside of your job description.
▪ Must already live in Dallas or surrounding areas (or be willing to relocate at your own expense)

Is it just me, or are the requirements a bit harsh? Then again, I guess that's a part of their success - a small, tight-knit group of talented people makes for some serious quality and QA; the downside being it makes production a tad on the slow side (I'm looking at you, Blizzard). If you're qualified and looking to work with the company that made deathmatch and frag household terms of action and competition, then drop them a line.
