I find it funny how much we take for granted the amount of serious talent that exists in the high school level. As college students we almost get sucked into this world of college musicianship and professional jazz players that get thrown our way. I was absolutely blown away today at many of the schools that performed. Every one that went up had some sort of strength. They also had many weaknesses. This interesting combination made me realize and remember exactly why im getting into teaching. Working a performance up to the level that these kids did is absolutely mind blowing to me. To see that passion and the excitement of the conductors as the group they molded came to life it made me really want to just skip school and get right into doing that.
All in all every single one of you performed so well and i was never more impressed at some of the things i saw.
Clark Terry, James Moody, Rufus Reid, and the UNH Jazz Band were also phenomenal. I feel honored to just know i attend classes with the people in that group.
I cant wait for student teaching!
