FANMIX - KINGDOM HEARTS II - Axel/Roxas: “Forget-Me-Not”
Axel and Roxas FST for this month fst theme (video games). The post is all filled with SPOILERS from all the KH games, so be careful and read at your own risk. Thank you for your time!
For my first FST I tried to point out the different stages in the [romantic] relationship between Axel and Roxas, and their separate evolutions as individuals.
I know the story on KH gets a bit complicated, but let’s see if we can settle this alright. To make it easier, I’ve managed the facts in chronological order. But please, let me know if you find any mistake!
CANON:
-> Roxas appears when Sora becomes a Heartless. Sora's short time as a Heartless and Kairi's heart serving in his creation are the reasons why Roxas has no memory of being a Nobody or about Sora.
-> He then joins Organization XIII, meeting Axel. They become BFF and so live happily (if Nobodies can live truly happy, that is…).
-> Xemnas tells Roxas about his true self and he decides to leave Organization XIII to find out who is the real Keyblade Master. Axel tries to stop him.
Axel: You get on their bad side and they'll destroy you!
Roxas: No one would miss me. *leaves*
Axel: That's not true... I would.
-> Once he leaves, Roxas fights Riku, who wants to defeat him as DiZ has told him Sora needs Roxas to wake up. They fight twice; the second time Riku wins and takes Roxas to DiZ, who puts Roxas in the Digital Twilight Town to control him. In this Matrix virtual reality, Roxas forgets about being searching for Sora, Organization XIII, and Axel. He thinks he is a normal guy on his summer vacation.
-> Xemnas orders Axel to join the rest of the Organization in looking for Sora. But Axel’s plans are different: His only objective is to protect Roxas, and prevent him from merging with Sora. In the past, Axel has tried to stop Sora from going where Roxas is but he's failed. He's also killed Vexen, so he would not tell Sora about Roxas.
-> Naminé is restoring Sora’s memories. As a result of it, in the Digital Twilight Town Roxas starts dreaming of about Sora’s memories. This confuses him even more.
-> Axel manages to enter the Digital Twilight Town through DiZ’s computer and tries to convince Roxas to go with him. But Roxas still doesn’t remember him at all.
Axel: Roxas. Alright. Fight, fight, fight. You really don't remember. It's me, you know. Axel.
Roxas: Axel?
Axel: Talk about blank with a Capital "B." Man oh man. Even the Dusks aren't gonna crack this one.
Roxas: Wait a sec. Tell me what's going on!
Axel: This town is his creation, right? Which means we don't have time for a Q and A. You're comin' with me, conscious or not. Then you'll hear the story.
They fight and DiZ appears, warning Roxas about Axel. Not knowing what's going on, Roxas freaks out a little.
-> Afterwards, Xemnas tells Axel that he has two options: either he brings Roxas back to the Organization or Xemnas kills Axel. At this point, Roxas goes to the Mansion and talks with Naminé. He sees the drawings all over the room, and stares at one. It’s one that depicts him and Axel.
Roxas: This is... me? *checking out the drawing* ... And Axel's here too.
Naminé: You ARE best friends...
Roxas: Very funny.
Naminé: Don't you want to know the truth about who you really are?
Roxas: No one knows me better than me.
Naminé: Of course...
Roxas: But... I don't get what's been happening lately.

Naminé: About a year ago... some things happened, and I had to take apart the memories chained together in Sora's heart. But now ...I'm putting them all back exactly the way they were. It's taken me a long time, but pretty soon Sora will be his old self again. The process has been affecting you, too, Roxas.
Roxas: You mean ...the dreams?
Naminé: Yes. You and Sora are connected. And ...In order for Sora to become completely whole again ...He needs you.
Roxas: Me? What for?
Naminé: You hold half of what he is ...He needs you, Roxas.

Roxas: *staring at the drawing of him and Axel* It's funny. Suddenly I feel like I don't know myself at all ...I guess I would like to know. What do you know about me ...That I don't?
Naminé: You ...You were never supposed to exist, Roxas.
Roxas: What...? How could you even say such a thing ...Even if it were true?
Naminé: I'm sorry. I guess some things ...really are better left unsaid.
-> Axel returns to the Digital Twilight Town and tries to convince Roxas once again to go with him, but Roxas still doesn’t remember by himself.
Axel: Look at what it's come to. I've been given these icky orders to destroy you - if you refuse to come back with me.
Roxas: We're... best friends, right?
Axel: Sure... But I'm not getting turned into a Dusk for... Wait a sec! You remember now?!
Roxas: Y…eah.
Axel: Great! …But, you know, gotta make sure and all. So, umm... What's our boss's name?
Roxas: ...
Axel: Oh, can't believe this...
They get ready to fight but DiZ stops the simulation and calls Roxas to the mansion. When he leaves, Axel stays there, thinking about what's going on.
Axel: The Roxas that I know is long gone. Fine, I see how it is...
-> In the mansion, Roxas meets Naminé again in the same room. He gets a memory from his time in Organization XIII.
Axel: Your mind's made up?
Roxas: Why did the Keyblade choose me? I have to know.
Axel: You can't turn on the Organization!
In the room with Naminé, again.
Roxas: Organization XIII. They are a bad group.
Naminé: Bad or good. I don't know. They're a group of incomplete people who wish to be whole. To that end, they're desperately searching for something.
Roxas: What?
Naminé: Kingdom Hearts.
Roxas: *laughs*
Naminé: Funny?
Roxas: It's just, I think --- I've been running away from the question I really wanna ask: What's gonna happen to me now? Just tell me that. Nothing else really matters anymore.
Naminé: You are... *dissapears*
-> Axel goes back to Digital Twilight Town and tries to convince Roxas for the last time.
Roxas remembers now.
Axel: You really do remember me this time. I'm SO FLATTERED! *quite obviously angry*
They fight and Roxas wins. Axel is too weak to do anything but see how Roxas goes to meet Sora. Although Roxas remembers now he also knows what he has to do. The closer he is to Sora, the more he becomes his true self.
Roxas: Axel...
Axel: Let's meet again in the next life.
Roxas: Yeah. I'll be waiting.
Axel: Silly... Just because you have a next life... *disappears*
-> Finally Roxas finds Sora, who has been sleeping for a year now.
Roxas: You’re lucky, Sora. I guess my summer vacation is over.
Roxas disappears and Sora wakes up.
-> Axel doesn’t want to believe that Roxas has disappeared. He wants to find a way to get him back. So, he goes to kidnap Kairi to make sure Sora goes to him. His big plan is to force Sora to lose his heart again.
Kairi: Maybe… waiting isn’t good enough.
Axel: My thoughts exactly! If you have a dream, don’t wait, act! One of life’s little rules. Got it memorized?
Kairi: Who are you?
Axel: Axel. I happen to be an acquaintance of Sora’s. Why don’t we go see him?
Kairi: …Sora?
Pluto: *barks and follows his own tail*
Nobodies: *appear*
Pluto: *growls*
Axel: We’ve got something in common, Kairi. You and I both miss someone we care about. Hey… I feel like we’re friends already.
Nobodies: *acting rather friendly around here, really*
Kairi: You’re not acting very friendly! *she and Pluto get into the black door and go to Digital Twilight Town*
-> In the Digital Twilight Town Kairi is kidnapped by the Organization. At that time, Axel realizes that Roxas is never going to come back; he is now a part of Sora. So, somehow he is living inside Sora. That’s when Axel decides to protect Sora. They are both being attacked by a bunch of Nobodies in their way to save Kairi.
Axel: I think I liked it better when they were on my side.
Sora: Feeling a little...regret?
Axel: Nah...I can handle these punks. Watch this! *kamikaze attack*
The Nobodies have been wiped out. Sora sees Axel lying on the floor and runs toward him
Sora: You're...fading away...
Axel: Well, that's what happens when you put your whole being into an attack. You know what I mean? Not that Nobodies actually have beings...right? Anyway, I digress. Go, find Kairi. Oh, almost forgot... Sorry for what I did to her.
Sora: When we find her, you can tell her that yourself.
Axel: Think I'll pass. My heart just wouldn't be in it, you know? Haven't got one.
Sora: Axel, what were you trying to do?
Axel: I wanted to see Roxas. He...was the only one I liked... He made me feel... like I had a heart. It's kind of... funny... You make me feel...the same... Kairi's in the castle dungeon. Now go. *opens up a passage to the World That Never Was*
Sora: Axel...
Axel: *fades away*
