Looking at new hardware

Jan 20, 2011 10:45

I guess its that time again, where I start to look at new hardware. With SandyBridge out I can severely cut down the expenses of owning a desktop since I don't technically need a graphics card (at least not right away) to do my daily functions. I'm currently running a P4 setup, so I am seriously behind the times in terms of hardware. My laptop on the otherhand is beefy, and I use that 90% of the time so I'm not really sure if I even need a desktop, which is also something to think about.

So where does this leave me if I were to build one?

Case: Lilan-li (reusing my old one, also I hate glowing/windows and fans)
If anyone has any other non flashy cases they like, let me know.

Processor: Core i7-2600k. I can snag this bad boy for 160 bucks.

Motherboard: I can get either one of these two for 93/160 respectably. Since I don't plan to ever SLI, I don't think there is a reason to go for the higher end one. Soundcards are all external (firewire or USB)

Ram: 8 Gig G.Skill 1333 DDR3 Ram.
A brand I've not heard of, but it is highly rated and they seem to have good customer support. I'd be willing to take the risk for the price.
