Still alive!

I had an interview yesterday that went fairly well... and I'm supposed to call another company for some freelance work today. (Remote freelance work; they want me to make them a powerpoint presentation of their product. Not terribly difficult, methinks. But they're going to give me a storyboard today, hopefully.) My part-time jobs want me to work more hours this week than I think are in this week.

So anyway, I should be able to pay rent this month.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this--not about being able to pay rent, that's pretty much just awesome--'cause I feel like I shouldn't turn down my part-time jobs' hours, but I need some time to get other things done. Like applying to book publishing jobs... and patching my airbed, which has been flat for the last two weeks. That, and the commute for the part-times is killer--one and a half hours, one way--so I spend two to three hours not getting paid and not getting my stuff done every day I work. (And yes, I bring things with me to work on while I'm on the train, but it isn't quite the same.) And then they hiked the prices of a train ticket up another 25%, so now I'm paying $18.00 just to get to work and back. Which means, in essence, I'm working for free for the first hour. (...And, if I worked in any other state, I could afford to buy two paperbacks every day and still pay less for my commute. As is, I can justify maybe one book a month.)

Heh, I guess I just woke up this morning wishing I was somewhere else. Figures. The most fun I've had this week (outside of several zombie-bashing sessions with my brother online) was when my train lost power yesterday. It was pretty cool--we're rolling along, it's night, and suddenly all the lights go out. But the train keeps on going, 'cause apparently the train propulsion is on a different power system. This was rather annoying for most of the people on the train, but I was having a good time, anyway. It was something different. And since "the same" is getting rather boring, and I didn't like it all that well to begin with, "different" was fun.

And for the record, trains are much more awesome than buses. Even if they do occasionally lose power for reasons the conductor can't even explain!

transit, work
