A bit back went to Half Price Books and instead of merely going overboard on the printed material, decided to browse the music section and go overboard there as well.  Got a mixture of albums I know and like; artists I know but albums I don't; and artists who I've heard of only margianlly if at all (tho that doesn't necessarily mean they are marginal, more how limited my exposure probably is :D )  For $1-$3 per tape or CD, figured it's a good way to expose myself to more stuff.

Really glad I got the Monsoon Wedding soundtrack,  Makes me really want to see the movie again.  Even more piques my interest in bhangra rock that began developing in Berekelry.  (For some reason Milwaukee doesn't seem to have the same East Indian/ South Asian population NoCal has.  Go figure .... Which reminds me mischief -is that one of the things you noticed in moving from NoVa to the South?  Definitely is something that I notice a lot, spending so much time in the multicultural, in both the ethnic/racial/place of origin sense and general sense of the word cutlure, environs of DC and CA and then moving back to the Midwest)   Now I  need to find  a copy of the lyrics,  plus preferably an English translation!  (Also led me to the discovery of the Hindi word Kardaa for heart, which makes me speculate that, given the greek word kardia, that this is a root that goes back all the way to the proto-Indo-European origins of the I-E language family.  Makes sense, given the fact that it is signs for basic concepts that are most readily preserved linguistically.  I also wonder - really speculative here - is the sound omnopateioc for the beating of the heart?  Car-dah, car-dah, car-dah.... might explaing why it became the word for heart in the first place)

Just listened to luckyspacepeople by one Todd Bowie.  As the name -and cover art - suggested, kind of a spacey, ethereal type album - except also w/ a harder edge than the word ethereal would suggest.  Wasn't particulary enamoured of it - not agin' it, just didn't float my boat much.
