So. My kid's going to college.
She didn't get into her first choice schools, but she did get a very nice offer from one of her second tier schools, Hofstra University in New York. It looks like it's going to be a good experience. It's a small school, with a low student:teacher ratio. It's on Long Island and located *just* outside of Queens in Nassau County, I believe. I could be wrong on the county.
While we're still pursuing additional scholarships and grants, loans are going to have to make up the balance of her funding.
I've been digging around looking for funding sources and it hit me. I wonder if there's a way to go directly to people who might want to donate money directly to a kid's education. I recently heard about something called
Kickstarter which is a way of doing "crowd funding" for creative projects like movies or software or whatever.
Why is there no crowd funding for education? And if there is, anyone know where it is?
