This morning has been an emotional roller coaster. The trigger was something so incredibly trivial, but the response I've seen online has me alternating between white hot anger and unutterable sadness. ( behind the cut for the sanity of my flist )
When I read some of the comments on the FB-page I got really angry (like that nutjob who put pedophiles and animal sex on the same level as being gay). I'm getting angry again just writing this, jesus christ (yes I swear and I'm not afraid to swear on jesus christ xD)
I was also raised a christian. I had to go to church on school beginning, eastern and christmas until I was 18 and my mom couldn't tell me what to do anymore.
We live in a small town with 1300 people. There is also church every Saturday and Sunday but we don't get shut out of the community thank god. And I don't have a problem to tell them all, that the church is totally overrated and money sucker. I believe in god, I really do but I don't need a church to prove it.
And what I admired the most about my parents that they always told me, if I happened to be gay it's okay to tell them. They won't get angry and they won't love me any less. I think the first time they told me that when I was 12 years old. I was a sort of Tomboy as a kid. I played with barbies but I hated wearing dresses. So they always told me it's okay to be gay. They told me that until I was 16 I think.
And on the topic Dorneget being gay? I hope you run for president Dorney and win! Americans already have a black president. The next one is gay or even Transgender ^^ Who knows?
Good for your parents. I told my daughter something along those lines when she was younger (18 now). She just rolled her eyes and sighed. It's a none issue in her social circle and in her school. The other day at lunch, they were all sitting around figuring the percentage of g/b/l/t/p (one of her classmates identifies as pansexual) to straight in the school. This is what happens when you have a whole school of smart kids and a stats class. LOL
I don't *care* what gender or color or whatever the person she falls in love with is. I just want that person to treat her right and for her to be happy.
I'm glad you live in a place where it's not a big issue. For all that Houston's a pretty laid back, accepting place, there are enough assholes who want to climb their way to heaven on the backs of people like you and me to make life occasionally difficult (and yes, I've heard some refer to it like that).
