Wasn't that wonderful? We get so used to being told only beautiful people being successful and talented and capable and then you see this dowdy, middle-aged woman step onto a stage, open her mouth and that *incredible* voice comes out.
That was just IT exactly. That she was just so ordinary, and in fact they assumed she was also a bit silly as well from looking at her. Then she gave that little grin as if to say "I'll show you" and opened her mouth and sang like an angel. Wonderful!
I've never been able to bring myself to watch these. I think I was scarred early by The Gong Show. :-) But I will be looking for her. I'd buy her cds in a hot minute.
There's a record company out there right now pulling a boilerplate contract out of a drawer and putting her name on it. I'd be *shocked* if it was *only* one.
I do, too! Not just because she's disgustingly talented and I want to hear her voice, but because she's One Of Us! :-) One of the middled-aged, dowdy women who move through life unseen, dismissed, unknown. On the one hand, it's kinda nice to be under everyone's radar. Except that "everyone" includes bosses and landlords and, well, pretty much everyone.
