Work work work

I suck less than I did last week. Specifically, I'm starting to get the hang of controller tuning. PIDs are pretty simple when you meet them in a classroom, but real-world PID tuning of 3D gain maps for a $500k twin-turbocharged loadsharing gas genset application is another matter.

I'm running point for the next couple of weeks on emissions calibration, throttle and bypass tuning using our existing controller strategy to get product out the door, after which we'll have a few weeks to work on development/implementation of a new-and-improved throttle control that I'm rather excited about - it involves less technogrunt work and more sophisticated system modeling, which should result in substantially more robust controller software. Rawr.

M leaves for StL tonight or tomorrow (as soon as her car gets fixed again, for the same drive shaft problem) to welcome Abby & Bryan's baby into the world, as Abby did for us with both boys. For those of you who don't know, when Sammy was born, Abby came to the hospital and stayed up watching Emma all night in the waiting room so Sarah could be in the delivery room with Monica. Isn't that awesome? Sigh... why does Monica get all the good friends? :)
