They make my world round. No, they don't make it go 'round. They make it round.
They're that awesome.
I spend most of time in at least one fandom, if not multiples all at once. I know what it's like to be absolutely obessed with a pairing, a character, a plot line. It's amazing, and it can do equally amazing things to your own creativity. You'll start off as just a fan girl/fan boy, and through idolizing your fandoms, you grow as a writer. You take what you like, and you implement in your story whether you do it consciously or not.
And your soul grows every time you create something that didn't exist before you made it yourself, even if it's some cracky porn fic you're writing for a kinkmeme - your soul still expanded, at least a teensy bit.
I wish my writing could change lives like that. I wish my characters would have other obsessive fans besides me. I don't count. I'm the one who created them - I'm biased.
As a wish, I release this into the universe: I would like my Some Idiots storyline and characters to one day develop a fandom and fannish following all its own. I'd love to read someone's fanfiction with my own characters -- in theory. (Just because I'd like to see it, doesn't mean I'll like reading it. Even if they're my characters, bad writing is bad writing.) I'd love to find that there's a fanart community surrouding the lovely details of Walt's ever-changingly colorful boxer shorts, or that someone started a someidiots_slash comm on LJ, one not created by me and run by fans of my work.
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. And then I'd hang out with my fans in stealth, pretending to be a fan girl amongst them while secretly glowing with my wonderful success, reading their theories and explainations on the fandom and wondering where they hell they think of this stuff.
Yeah, I know that's extremely selfish, and it's making a major assumptaion as to whether my material actually strikes any cord with readers... Assumign that I ever finish editing and publish the damn thing.
Okay, even I'll say that this will probably, in all likeliness, NEVER HAPPEN, and if breaks some sort of natural law and then by accident HAPPENS, it's not happening for at least another twenty years, give or take.
And I'm totally fine with that. <3
